Hybrid?

  C250 AMG & 172 Cup
Ok i keep seeing the term Clio 16v Hybrid used all the time, but what actually is a clio 16v hybrid? Now dont shout at me for not knowing lol.

a hybrid is when people put a williams engine (2.0 16v - f7r engine) into their valver (a 1.8 16v clio - f7p engine)

Ahh now it makes sense lol, is there much performance difference inbetween the two cars? I was always under the impression that the clio williams wasnt that much quicker?

  Tungy
valver - 137bhp standard
williams - 150bhp standard

Also the williams is a fair bit torqeir lower down in the rev range. Better starting point for engine mods too.

Hmmm im tempted get a 16v or willy just for some track day fun......the temptations!

  53 Clio's & counting
the main difference is the torque as mentioned,i used to own a valver, with breathing mods, went great from 5-7500k but flat under that

i then bought my old hybrid (L765 GYW) of my mate ju who had the 2.0ltr fitted and it was just a different world, same mods on each, but when i stripped the interior i went on to do a 14.1 quarter mile

here is the timing slip:

and this was run at USC in 30 degree heat

so the difference between the who was amazing, i could hit the rev limiter in 5th from a standing start in 29 seconds

He rolled it, he was filming in the car doing a lap on a track & it went over.
He put the vid up on here a while back.

Are the williams engines hard to get hold of? And how much on average does it cost in full? Are the gearbox's etc different?

Bar the stamp on the engine, the willy has supporting veins (so too the megane but they are even bigger) whereas the 1.8 16v doesnt. there the only real ways to tell.

im not sure i agree the F7Rs are rare as there is ALWAYS one for sale on ebay or williamsclio, just you dont see them on cs as its more mk2 orientated.

and russ....... 29seconds to limiter in 5th? no way! so 0-140 in 30 seconds....

id love a big willy.

rly though, i would love a willy 3 for a weekend car. Just so expensive for what they actually are.

How can you say that? there not expensive, i bought a willy 1 last month for £1500, in mint condition and low miles 75k.

Now where can u spend that little and get so much performance, handling, comfort, smiles per mile etc in return

I've got a Williams engine + box you can have for 350-400?

Came out of a hybrid that we were breaking, still has engine loom and apparently a better exhaust manifold. Probably needs a service. Ran fine when we got the car but lumpy cause had no fuel.

Have fuel tank and radiatior etc too.

No I wouldn't necesarily say so mate. A lot of people will still pay up to £4k for a good example. Every now and then some people manage to pick up a bargain like the one mentioned for £1500 though as some people selling don't know how much they can get for one.

Cant you make your own Willy engine by using the head off a 1.8 and a Megane bottom end?.

You can make a 2.0 that way, but its not quite the same as a williams engine as a williams engine has slightly bigger valves and I believe it is meant to be a little better in terms of airflow - not really a huge amount in it though. The third option is to use an entire megane engine but you really need to have the head machined to take a dizzy cap in order to run it off a valver/williams ECU. It could be run off the original megane setup but its meant to be a bit of a pain in the arse.

Ahhhh, nice one.
Has the megane engine got the "big valve" head?.

Yeah, I believe the megane head is actually meant to be superior to the williams from what I have read. A lot of people who go for throttle bodies go for a megane head for that reason I think.
