Update:

Ok, bought a piece of 12mm thick MDF from b&q, for £6

Gave the guy dimensions, and he cut it for me.

I measured it up, so that the MDF just fits inside of the back of the existing parcel shelf (pic below).

What this means is, I still can use the original shelf with hinges & strings, and the original shelf hides the MDF.

As for the MDF, it actually sits on the same sills as the shelf (the sills have an extra cm on either side, which means both MDF and shelf are supported by them).

I have already used 3nuts/bolts/washers to secure the MDF to the shelf. The speakers and AMP will add more bolts & rigidity to the structure, so theres no need for more.

I will not go for "stealth" because accoustic carpet is far too expensive for what it is. I will go for this look:

8 x 4 sheet of 18mm and 25mm MDF for £0 delivered to my door:D :D :D

Yup, ok that was at cost prices, but even so you can get a 4 x 3 sheet of 12mm MDF for alot less then £6 at retail prices

I got my old man to make me one a few years back for my old Corsa, did a top job.

We cut holes in the shape of the speaker cone and then mounted the speakers under the MDF and covered the top with acoustic carpet. Worked very well to be fair and only cost £10 or so to make the shelf.

dont wanna be picky but not realy very stealthy is it?
Ah... but it wasnt about hiding them, it was about getting them fixed onto something solid, so that they dont wobble over bumps. Theyll sound better too (hopefuly).
