This was the bolt that had been damaged.

The fact it was there didn't seem to make any difference as the thread was nackered :S

i remember you showing me how wobbly it was and how the buttons didnt work.

So he knew the steering wheel was "wobbly", he even showed you, but he did nothing about it, then was surprised when it fell off in the middle of a corner. Right.

It wasn't wobbly, the horn didn't work thats all.

I think Nathan is talking about the steering rack, or perhaps the horn/indicator black plate behind the wheel.

The wheel was anything but wobbly! Adam Hodge can vouch for that!

I just died in your arms tonight, it must've been you said.

My auntie had a similar thing happen. She went to turn right at a roundabout, the steering wheel turned, the car did not!

Not being funny but if the steering wheel has been quote 'off loads of times' its probably been fitted wrong, even too tight as this can be just as bad as not being tight enough (bolts shearing off etc). Hardly the cars fault imo

FFS dont tell watchdog, blah blah blah all renaults clios the steering wheels fall off on, so if your bonnet should come up you wont even be able to swerve dramatically!:rasp: :rasp:

PS glad your ok! bet the seat needs a wet & dry!!!;)

Yeah, I really don't think it is a design fault although I think there is something wrong with the car.

When I put the steering wheel back on as it should to go straight the wheel has to be 90* turned :S

My tracking was out a little but only by about 15* before.

sam, how many fooking times are you gonna crash this damn car?????? is it even worth me PCing it????

I didn't know the steering wheel was going to come off!

It wouldn't move when Adam and I were trying to get it off and then suddenly just comes off :s

Is that B1176 a good drving road or is it just a windy bugger with s**t visibility and road surface?
I live just down the A1, and might take that route as oppose to the A1 next time I'm heading to Grantham if it's any good???

It is an awesome road.

I drive it about 5 times a week each way and its got a good mix of fast, slow and undiluating bends.

Some parts are 80mph+ (100mph+ for a 182) and others are as slow as 30.

It can be frustrating if you get stuck behind something though and alot of people tend to drive at 40 all the way, so be patient.

Fancy a mini meet with myself and NathanH?

I remember the 'jack' incident too. Then driving with a dodgy steering wheel, don't sound very sensible to me. You wanna be glad you didn't kill anybody. May sound harsh but its so true:S

The steering wheel wasn't dodgy it was just stuck on and no matter what we tried it would not come off. It was then held down with a torx bolt and the airbag put back on...

Yes.

I knew it wouldn't come off and it was stuck on.

Surely you would think this was good for safety, if anything?

Glad ur ok n all that, and glad no body else was involved, but personally I would have got it checked out professionally.

wow, lets stop with the insults, my comment didnt help, sorry.

yep B1176 is an awsome road, its a known bikers road too. loads of people have had accidents on it through out the years and a few people have died, its not a forgiving road as the majority of it is lined with trees and ditches.

Its the 'Nurburgring of Lincolnshire' ;)

Just looking at the map now, so next time I'm driving that way I can try out this road (B1176)...
I'm presuming the road is as follows:

-Grantham
-Boothby Pagnell
-Bitchfield (who the hell named this place??)
-Burton-Le-Cobbles
-Corby Glen
-Then join up with the A151

That about right? Looks like you could continue the route through to Stamford too down the Swinstead Road...looks like quite a fast road there.

  Breaking A 172 Replica
Yes that is right but miss out burton coggles. Just miss the turning for it and go straight to CG.

You can go on to Stamford using the Swinstead road but I don't think this road is worth it tbh.

Perhaps best off turning right at the T juntion where you look down left to CG and right out towards the A1. Then just join the A1 southbound at the colsterworth roundabout.
