I Bought a 172 Cup...

Pretty jealous of the garage set up!,looks sweet!,I will have something like that soon hopefully next year,Oh and congrats by the way
Thanks mate, not long now!!
If you ever wanna pop round in the summer and use any of the machine polishers etc you’re more than welcome bud.
Great work all round, that car will be so immaculate soon you won't want to take it out and drive it!!
I’ve only driven it once since I bought it but once it’s finished it will only pop out on the ocassional sunny Sunday!!!

How difficult is it to refit the rear wiper and motor? Mine is the same and I would like to source one and stick it back on

Really easy mate, took me about 20mins start to finish. Can’t even remember how exactly I did it but it is really obvious when you look. Think you literally just pull off the blank then remove trim at rear and reconnect electrics and bolt back in.

Thanks mate, need to do that myself. I don't like the look or the fact I can't see out the back without it.

As the new MOT rules state aftermarket HID conversion is a failure (plus wanting this car to be an immaculate Original example) I removed the kit and refitted the originals. And also changed the indicator bulbs while I was at it.

What was unbelievable (to me anyway) was the amount of stuff I removed!!!

Finally I removed the gearstick stop because the markings had faded and I applied a vinyl and then sealed in with clearcoat.

Then spent two hours (fully aware it doesn’t even look touched lol) Cleaning the engine bay and reverse of bonnet. This was just using an APC and couple of brushes. It will be given a proper detail in due course with steam cleaner etc etc but I just wanted to make a start. I also vaccumed and cleaned the bonnet heat shield mat.

Plan eventually will be to spray metal parts and replace visible rusted nuts and bolts etc etc. I will also be replacing expansion tank fitting battery cover and other cosmetic changes.

Fitted a sport hazard surround as the previous owner had fitted a non-sport. So hard to find good condition used plastics but at least it’s orginal! Any other suggestions?

Also got a new passenger side mirror cap as the orginal had some scratching on it, need to machine polish it but it’s a lot better.

Hi please can you let me know where you got the vinyl from for the gearknob and how you applied the clearcoat (spray?) It looks really good and I need to do the same on my car

Looool! ? It was but as most things are nearly complete bar the engine bay I started to think about selling and buying another one or going OEM+

Queue the offers piling in for it. Great job you have done with this car. Personally, I would enjoy it for the summer now it's near complete. But you will no doubt get a nice sum for it now.

Very true, I have the final bits being done on Saturday so will have to have a think after. Still really really want a Petrol Blue 182 so may sell on and hunt for one of those.

Those brakes!! Awesome! I'd go oem+ and keep it after all the hard work, just as I have done with mine - little touches and improvements on an otherwise standard looking car is the way
