I could cry!

  A4 Avant & A3
i had new rear discs at 12k!! they were very badly corroded, luckily becuase of the mileage & age, i had them under warranty!
I get rust build up on the new quite badly now aswell! gotta watch them, don't wanna be replacing them all the time!

  Broken Diesel Megane :(
indeed i was. yeah i know used to be handy for those early mornings lol. (sorry to all those who aint from aberdeen or portlethen lol)

  Monaco Blue 172
apparently all discs & pads on mine were changed just before 20k. seems a tad early for my liking too!

er yeah apologies for the hijacking of thread ;) reminiscing over hehe!

  Clio 172 Cup
Friends reunited lol! My car is under warranty too, but I didnt think brake discs and pads came under warranity as its wear and tear?

  A4 Avant & A3
^^ my discs only got changed as it was very low mileage & the discs had corroded (not worn) don't think they changed the pads though.

  Clio 172 Cup
I'll get my bf to check them when hes home tomorrow. Dont want to have to spend any money if I dont need too! I had a look at them last night. and I did see some corrosion.....!!

Just pay for the service and buy the bits and either fit them yourself or get someone else to do it. Rear discs arent rocket science and Renaults labour rate is normally a pisstake.

Good advice.....I'd do the same.

Have to be careful with dealers when they say you need parts because they are worn...hate to say it but they do assume some people know little so will take the pi**.

rear discs may need a clean but unlilkely to be worn out at 24k...they don't do much work.

especially with female customers! little do they realise i'm a qualified engineer and am not scared of technical challenges ;)

  Monaco Blue 172
my dad told me to check the gaiters when i picked up my new car. i still havent done it yet :S judging by this i probably should!

  Clio 172 Cup
Yeah they probably presumed since I'm female I know nothing about cars, I know a bit, not bad for a female! Just need you guys for advice sometimes hehe. Thanks.
By they way the rubber clips is something to do with my boot?

  RB 197 + Cup Pack
My cup had it's 24k service a few months ago & they rang me up & said my pads were all 80% worn!
I told them not to bother fitting new ones as they were going to charge loads & got my boyfriend to fit them instead. When he did fit them the old ones were no way near 80% worn!

  Monaco Blue 172
yeah god help u if u come across these types that are obsessed with renewing brake discs/pads. kwik fit were a bloody nightmare, always insisting that u need to change pads & discs at the same time?! b****cks to that! one time they tried to stop my dad from leaving the garage because his brakes were "dangerous" lol

Get the service done if you feel the need to retain a stamped up Renault book but get the other bits done by a specialist. Let us know your location and there will be a recommended specialist close to you.

aslong as you use a garage that use Renault parts your still in warranty.I took my car to Renault for the first 2 services, they cost alot and didnt care about me so now I use a local garage, that does care for me and my car.

might be worth asking for the old parts back if they are going to fit new ones - that should help reduce the risk of them charging for actually doing nothing, as some places have apparently done!

you should cry lol thats a disgrace

discs will be about 35 quid a pair , pads about 15 quid and cv boots about a fiver each

my 2002 172 has 42k on and mine hasnt needed rear pads or discs yet.
im afraid they've got your eyes there.

make sure you complain!!!!!

Probably CV boots then, they are not a bad job to change, and as a part are dirt cheap.

I paid £9 for a pair of drive shaft gators for Bec's RSi to give you an indication (but that is on a trade account), so i'd expect them to be no more than about £15

  V6 Exige, GTR R35
it wasnt at reg vardy at lang stracht by any chance?

the thieving tossers ripped me off there too

  VaVa
I was quoted £350 for rear discs and pads by Renault. Parts were £180. Fecking rip off.

Got genuine Renault discs and Tar-Ox pads fitted by Nick @ Hillpower for £210.... Which is £140 cheaper than Renault!!
