I don't understand 'slamming'

Just a general post too see who is in the same boat as me. I know what slamming is, I just don't see the point. My car is on coilivers, but sits at near standard ride height. I don't see the point in winding them too the floor, ruining the handling, making it completely impractical and IMO look worse. I'm 19, so I'm not old, but I still don't understand the draw of it.

I'm not a fan either, a nicely lowered car yes,
scraping on the floor and crawling over speed bumps like an arthritic tortoise......no!!!

But it looks s**t when that low. As said a nicely lowered car looks good and is a nice mod. But sill scuffing is dire.

I've seen a fair few cars at fcs and css which were pretty low and looked very nice imo, but too low and I think, nope no good. To me there's a fine line between looking good and too low

It's all about looks really. I think a 20 or 30mm drop looks best. Much better than stock and much better than 60, 80 etc

i dont understand impractical lows either tbf.

that said, although id never slam anything myself, i do enjoy seeing stupidly impractical cars around

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the slammed look but i'm not against lowering. i'd echo whats being said here and say that when the arches go past the tyre then it starts to look tacky.

Clios' don't tend to look right stanced anyway.

Slamming and stanced are two different things. Anybody can slam a car and make it look s**t. Whereas stancing it you need a combination of the right height, size wheel, offset wheel and tyre profile.

There is a great analogy that is going around, I'll try to find it.

That would probably be this;

A woman, strictly speaking, is designed to be able to move over ground at a reasonable rate. She can do this quickly in a pair of top spec running shoes, they won't look good, but they will be effective. A car is very much the same, with the correct height and other things, it will handle very well and move across ground quickly, but as with the woman, it won't look as good.

Now put the same woman in a pair of high heels, she can't move particularly quickly, but she looks sexy as hell. This is what a stance car is about. Looking sexy as hell, irrespective of how quickly it moves.

Stance, when done properly, looks amazing. A car with no dampers, sat on its chassis rails, does not.
 
My car used to be slammed, couldnt see the tyre on front or rear. Back then I thought it was the b****cks lol but have since raised it. The arch now sits just on the top of the tyre, pretty much the same as Danny's ride height. Looks, feels and goes much better IMO! Much more practical too.

Guy at work has a decked MX5. Don't honestly know how he lives with it, can't go over any speed bumps at all!!!!

Slamming = downforce. Big diffuser on the back and a flat floor. Anyone tried this hahahaha

ground clearance in single-digit mm is fine for racecar.

sealed undersides, venturis, diffusers, gurney flaps, spoilers. All that. Sorted when trying to muscle out a rival into turn 8.

Not much good if trying to get out of level 8 of multi-storey

No it's not.

It's about making it look like your wheels are attached at 90-degrees to the chassis.

and trying to create ground effect by skimming the surface with the sills.

IMO

It would be more justifiable if it came with the body trimmings.

My point is that Stance would look better / be mroe understandable WITH mo downforce.

That's a competition drift car you ape! ;)

Road going stanced cars should be as clean as possible, with nothing that confuses the lines of the car.

All imo anyway.

Well, we're going to have to disagree in the best way possible on this. :)

If I was to pour money into a car to do all thast work, I'd have to finish the job properly.

For instance, if on my MX-5, I'd have to go and do something like....

Although the headlamp covers and fake bonnet catches are a step too far.

In any event, unless there's a seriously good reason under the hood for all this, it's just a chavvy failure.
 
First two are okay. Second one is nice, but I just personally like that.

3rd one is an abortion. Seriously!

Anyway, you can't stance yours, mint blue won't go low enough, common knowledge.
