I want my old car back

  RS Clio 200
think its just a case of learning the new car dude.

ull soon love the fact that you have to/get the fun of playing with thr throttle and having a good old fight with the wheel.

Personally id be bored if it was too easy, which is why ill never buy a scooby or evo, as much as id love em for the power, too much computer intervention for my liking.

fack knows can't remember now!! (got the print out buried somwhere lol) had it done last june, probably needs a slight tweek, but as i'm thinking about raising it a wee bit, and it needs tyres soon, i'll wait untill i decide what to do!!!

yeah, and as you said rears cant be adjusted unless shims are fitted, think yozza does them?

Had mine done a couple of weeks back for Oulton, neg 2.0 degrees on the front. It's much better now tbh, may get the rears done, but I'll see how it is once I finally track the b**ch lol.

Had mine done at Pro Speed (Subaru specialist), they can do the rears, not sure on price though... tbh it's prolly a bit overkill for a road car... plus the tyre wear would be increased I'd have thought

  850 T5. mmmm Turbo!
seems like im not the only one not 100% happy with the renaultsport range.
i get my xmas bonus this month so im gonna be some springs and see if it changes the ride much.

ive had my 172 for nearly a rear now and i love it ...... it does take some getting used to in the corners ,ESPECIALLY WITH THE REAR END ( EASY TO GET THE BACK END TO KICK OUT ) but some decent tyres sorts that out any lowered car can go round corners quick , all depends if you prefere to drive a standard car or not , i get 35mpg all the time dont worry about that , MPG AINT IMPORTANT ,,, AS LONG AS YOUR HAVING FUN .
ALL THESE PEOPLE MOANING ABOUT THEIR MPG , MUST BE GETTING OLD LOL ,YOU NEED TO TAKE THESE 172'S OVER 5K RPM TO REVEAL THEIR POWER ,WHEN YOUR USED TO IT YOU WILL LOVE IT 60 MPH IN SECOND BEFORE THE LIMITER COMES IN CANT BE THAT BAD ?????

  monaco blue 172 ..
We Could Allways Meet Up And Compare CARS If That Would Help Mate ???????
As I See Your In Doncaster Not Far From Chessy

  monaco blue 172 ..
i can keep up with a trophy ,,,,only just mind you ......so it cant be all bad ...
and that was on the cat and fiddle meet last year fookin s**t myself in the process of following pacey but thats how you find out the limits of most cars ....by following other people .....

eh?
my old car did, my mates focus rev higher and its only a 1.6.

i think the gear ratios are too short and the car is lacking a 6th gear.

lol at this thread, just trying to help mate . you cant compare a 1.2 to a 2ltr ,, no its not a supercar but its a lot of bloody car for the money they have all the toys you need ,+ get you to 60 in 7 scnds if not quicker most of the time

  tiTTy & SV650
rev limiter kicks in early when the engine is cold to preserve it's life... back end only steps out easily if you want it to or you're not driving it right i.e. you're committing too much throttle and then having to lift off.

as rory said, dont come off the throttle and it wont kick out lol!

nothing like your 172, were you expecting it to be faster than it?

60 in 2nd cant be that bad? yes it can, my mates 3 cylinder 1.0l corsa does that lol

I was going to say! Your car might get to 60mph in 2nd gear easily, but how long does it take to get there?! lol - to a 1.2 driver taking the pee out of a 2ltr! lol  12+ secs if you read parkers car guide. So by the time you get to 60, our crappy 2.0ltr rs is only just about managing 80-90mph in 3rd.....what a shame for us.

Another ridiculous post! Your mates corsa will do 60 in 2nd gear......so what it takes him 13+ secs to get there. lol at this thread.

no it doesnt it takes him 17 seconds

did i say my mates corsa was faster than a 172, no i was just telling the guy who thinks his 172 is awesome because it does 60 in 2nd that, 60 in 2nd is nothing special

Good for you. I will keep my 50mpg and the fact my 1.2 is £1000 cheaper to insure a year than a 172. Same chassis so just as fun in the twisties. Im probably going to buy a 172 in July, but I will keep my 1.2 for abit aswell just in case the 172 isnt all its cracked up to be.

In all seriousness lads, i think those 1.2 are great for ragging the tits off and they are real good fun to drive. It's just a totally different kettle of fish driving an rs. Good bit of banter though, cheers.

then pops up a roundabout and your 2ltr's are holding me up as usual ;)

what a shame for me

My nan could beat you in a race driving my rs against your 1.poo.
And she is blind!:rasp:

maby you should bring your nan to some of the cliosport meets then, seems she must be a much better driver than the guys i was keeping up with no problem, the ones holding me up in the bends... and some of them had track day experiance..

  Monblue bombay badboy!
I've only read a few pages of this thread, so apoligies if the coversation has headed else where, but regarding the topic, I have only just got an RS. I have had it about 4 weeks now. My previous car was a 1.2 16v Punto, as I was doing miles for work. Previously I have had Punto GT and 106 GTi.

Now, the RS to me, felt horrible. Honestly it did. Everything felt like I had to work hard to drive it. I was used to a little 1.2. Everything is lighter, quieter, and you can rag the tits of it and only be doing 60mph.

In the RS, it requires learning a different technique. I still haven't got it, but I'm much better. For the first week, I felt like the car was 'too big for me' and my old punto 'was small' and I could chuck it around all I wanted.
Basically, I knew it's limits, and what it could do. I have no idea about the RS's limits yet. It takes a few months to properly get used to a car.

Give it 6-8 weeks, and I bet you will love the RS. I'm sure as hell I will. The only thing I hate are the rattles. My g/f 1.2 clio doesn't rattle. But I convinced myself that it's a harsher ride, so it's going to rattle.

Basically, it's different, and not what you're used to. When your used to it, you'll love it.

I think you need more time behind the wheel, and a trackday or two to get a feel for what it's capable of.

I'm almost on 81k from new, and it feels every bit as quick now as it did when I first pulled away in it 3 years ago.

It still scares me regularly *

* usually following the thought "f***, I should've braked 10 metres earlier"

Its all a case of building confidence in the car to the point where you get the most from it.
When I had my 172, I got it new, from owning a 1.2 Clio. Because I had to run it in, I gradually built up the accelerating and throwing it around but with the mileage I was doing it took me over a month of running it in.

Give it time and you'll get a lot more out of a 172 than any of the other Clios (excluding Williams/Valvers).

And for what they are the fuel consumption isn't that bad. I used to see 32mpg+ around town. My Megane doesn't manage over 25mpg and 32mpg-ish on the motorway.

  MINI JCW
god sake a snail goes from 0-100 quicker than that, 172 all the way kids!

It seemed quite quick to 60 but took a bloody age to get to 100, Ive always said 0-100 is a so much better indicator of performance

A 1.2/ 1.4 is never going to be as fast as an RS but at the end of the day they are effectively the same chassis, so on a twisty country lane the 1.2 is going to be as fun to drive due to its light weight and chuckability. A 172 will have more power to pull itself out of a corner but its unlikely to be able to use all 172bhp. Im not saying the lesser engined models are better than the rs's, far from it, but lowered with a decent set of tyres they can be good fun whilst you are waiting for cheaper insurance on an RS.
