I want to lower my 1.2!

al

  ST on the way...
I would eventually like to get some coilovers, but for the time being (probably a couple of months) i'd just like to lower it.

If I put 40mm springs on, what sort of damage would it do to the standard shocks and how long would they last?

Also (last question) does "just springs" make any difference to the handling?

Cheers, Al :D

Shock life won't be to bad after a few month it all depends some people have cars with 60k on lowering springs on stock shocks and still are happy with the ride I wasn't happy with mine after 50k on stock springs.

It reduces roll and lowers the car I'd personaly save the money for coilovers.

I did it to my mk2, 35mm on gmax. was a bit s**t tbh, next time would just leave it an save for the real deal (coilovers)

the original shocks lasted 400 miles on gmax springs :S

handling was a tad better until the shocks gave way lol!

Slam 60mm. look's so much better and ride aint much difference - sticks to the road like on rails. i had mine on for 2years and never any damage done to standard shocks

Cheers for the advice folks, after various discussions i've come to the conclusion that coilovers maybe a little over budget but uprated "springs and shocks" may be the way forward.

Apex has been mentioned but can anyone reccomend any that are good but not too pricey?

Cheers :D

Apex are IMo to hard.
For the money for a good set I'd forget it and save for the coilovers.

Your looking at £100 a corner for decient shocks realy.

  Turbos.
FK Coilovers are not that expensive really, especially at 2modified.com.

At the end of the day the FK's give a better ride and make the car handle better, there is just no point throwing away your money on Apex s**t.

Just spank it on a credit card!

stick with the coilovers al, i regretted fitting a kit to mine so much after fitting my coilovers, more so for the drive than the look. Even though the 1.2 is a slow car the handling just made it so fun to drive and just gave me a whole new car feeling about the car. I had koni suspension before with H&R springs, and to be honest didnt even compare.

If I did go for coilovers it'd probably be FK's, they seem a good price from 2modified and he does finance so I hear.

And what was your insurance like adding coilovers?

  Chocolate Bar™
personally i'd take it to someone who can set up the camber properly (ie fred)

  Chocolate Bar™
fred! did a smashing job, camber was spot on. Charged 50 quid at the time but prob gone up since then ;)

  Turbos.
When you lower your Clio you will naturally get some negative camber, no bad thing. Getting the tracking done is all you need to do really.

As mentioned in other threads fitment depends where you go garages £60~£90 they should be able to get the fitment very good.
Proper setup from the motorsport places is good but at £200 IMO its not worth it not for the cheap price of Fk's with say H and R or Leda maybe even then I'm not sure.

People on here will fit cheaply though. If you do it right you'll get a good setup.
