iceberg respray problem?

Alrighty, I've got a few scrapes on my front and rear bumpers from the previous owner, I got a quote to get it sprayed and the man said he would need to do the 2 ffront wings to 'blend' it in.

I've been quoted 350 for the 2 front wings and both bumpers.

Just wondering if that sounds about right?

you dont need to blend the bumper into the wings.. just painting the bumpers alone is fine.

Could be a case of them not feeling confident in the colour.

Also it may already be out of colour.

Aye well I knew about the different colours in different lights, tbh the wings are perfect, not a mark or scuff on them!

My front bumper is faded and a bit scuffed, don't think the car was looked after at all before I got it, which is a shame.

The only problem with the back bumper is... A small scuff, the paint is off but there's not a gouge out of the plastic oranything, he said he would need to respray the whole bumper because of this?

I cana send the bumpers down to england as I need the car every weekend, got to be somewhere local ideally!

Thanks for the helpful replies!

What makes you think you can half paint a bumper? You say that they would have to paint the full bumper but really that's the norm. 99% of the time you will have at least half basecoat and always full lacquer.

Anyone who paints to the middle of the bumper unless it's very minimal corner damage and only on certain colours is not doing the job correctly. The problem you have with polishing tearback and poor surface adhesion just isn't worth the hassle. There is more work in painting half the bumper than there is just lacquering the full thing up.

Half painting panels is for smart repair people. Their customers want stuff done cheaply will minimal fuss. That's fine.

I would also add, if the damage to the front bumper was dead centre you would probably "lose the colour" before the sides. If they basecoat the full bumper you may end up will colour problems to the wings especially as it's a close fit unlike some cars.

Aye the bit on the rear bumper is right on the corner. I don't know about painting or anything, that's why I asked, I was just curious.

The front bumper has light scratches down both sides as if the previous owner has tried to squeez through a tight road, with rough bushes or something. And there's a bad scuff close to the bottom corner, looks like a high kerb or something. The bumper is faded a bit on one side.

What sort of work would you get to get the car looking fresh then gally? Wings and bumpers or just bumpers?

Cheers!

We wouldn't put down for blending wings on 99.9% of bumper resprays but that doesn't mean the garage is wrong, they've seen the car and if they feel it's the best way that they would be happy with then i'd feel quite happy that you found a decent garage.

I worry more when bodyshop quotes are cheap.

He's doing it as a homer for 350, it was 380 for the front bumper and both wings.

He's worked on my brothers car before and it was a good job. Like you say, he's seen it and if he thinks that's what he needs to do then fair enough.

I got a quote of 200 for just the 2 bumpers from another man but now he isn't answering his phone. Avoid him?

Not at all but if you seen the other guys work and you're impressed go to him. Saving money in body repair is a major false economy.

i recently had my roof resprayed, cost £240 inc vat

Random.

Would it be cheeky to ask him just to do the bumpers?

Tbh, its an 8 year old car, I'm not worried if there's a little bit of difference because the bumpers and wings are usually different colours anyway.

Of course not. He'll explain that if there is a colour difference then you have to accept it. It'll probably suit him aswell.

Thanks for the info but... What's that got to dowith my bumpers and wings ? Haha.

I'm guessing there's more work in the bumpers due to all the corners and edges so I can't really compare the prices!
