Idling all over the place!

  2004 1.5 DCi 80 Dyna
my x reg 1.4 si is idling like a sh*tting leaf!
when stationary it is moving from nothing to 1000 rev and back, its never steady! I have cleaned the ICV and it helped a bit but has since got worse and today it cut out whilst waiting in a traffic jam.

Do you reckon I need a new valve? They are about £25.00 on fleabay are they ok ones or crap aftermarket valves ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Idle-air-control-valve-Renault-1-4-Clio-II-Kangoo_W0QQitemZ140281260688QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item140281260688&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 )
I have already put it through the computer and nothing showed up, my local garage quoted me £60-70 for a new valve so if the ebay ones are ok then I will buy that and save me some cash:approve:

Unless it might be summet else?

Phase 1 172 does have an ICV yes. Other things to check could be coolant temp sensor or possibly an air leak on the inlet, Also a good idea to clean th throttle body.

Temp sender first thing i look at on Renault

I'm not sure what these are matey?

it's only idleing up and down when the engine is cold, as soon as the engine is up to full operating temperature then it idles at a rock steady 800 revs or so

any idea why it idles up and down when cold?

It is normal, its a renault fact. If its moving from 750 - 900 rpm yea theres something wrong. but there always up and down until they warm up. Someone will be along shortly to back that up...
