.... using optimax instead of cheap unleaded would it make a difference. The reason im asking is because ive always used the cheap crap then suddenly changing to the better stuff cant make any difference can it?

As usual opinions will be split both ways.

My advice is to run a few tank fulls through your car. It will only cost you a quid or so more and then you can decide for yourself.

We had this argument last week about engines being preset to run on certain fuels and as I pointed out many cars including my Vectra have a number of different pre-sets (for 91, 95 & 98 RON) and change between them depending on the fuel being used.

Only one way to find out with your car - fill her up, but I swore by it in my old 1.2 16v Extreme.

no - not immediately... it will take a while!

Drain your tank until you are driving on fumes and then fill her up - you will notice the difference after a couple of tanks as it cleans the engine - so it will clean up over time.

It is more pokey and even if you dont think there is any difference, Optimax will keep the engine far cleaner and thus aid fuel consumption and reduce engine wear...

i.e. Use optimax!

My Vectras ECU makes adjustments with 98 RON fuel but obviously if I have a quarter tank of 95 RON and fill it to the brim with 98 RON the resulting mixture will not equal 98 RON so I found after a couple of tanks it felt great.

The first time I used Optimax was in my 1.2 16v. I had a quarter tank of 50/50 95RON asda fuel and 97 RON SU. I tanked it up with Optimax and pulled out onto the ring road with a far heavier car but it felt a lot more responsive and made me laugh.

Placebo? Possibly but I havent used anything but Optimax ever since!

i have a 1.2 16v extreme and optimax or bp ultimate make it more responsive, as well as getting 30 - 40 more miles to a full tank.
