Illegal Number Plates

I was pulled over for an illegal number plate, bang to rights, it was, so not a leg to stand on really. However I was led to believe reading into it that I should received a notification of rectification or similar to replace the plates and prove that it has been done for a first offence. Annoyingly I have just received a notification of intent to prosecute or pay £100 fine, no other options? Is this at the discretion of the force in question? so it's not a given I would be given a more lenient approach of a first offence of this type? For the record I immediately changed the plates as soon as I was made aware.

I am going to ring the number and talk to the Police helpline but likely they'll just tell me naff off and pay up, so and advice or anyone had similar experience.

If it’s already gone that far then the time for discretion from the police is gone, it’s in the system now. From what you’ve said I think you’ll just have to pay the fixed penalty.

I got done for it which resulted in a warning and me needing to change my plates, but I believe it's at the discretion of the officer at the time

He said he would log it and I had a marker on the car like an asbo

I thought it was always a fine but Ronald will likely be able to confirm.

We just report and the central office decide how it’s dealt with. Same with all traffic offences.

Must have been a slow day if they’ve got time to enforce vrm plates. Unless they were proper proper naughty.

Just to add, I think there is or was a vehicle defect rectification scheme but I’ve never used it in 21 years. If it’s a serious defect we are looking at the car will get PG9’d (prohibition).

Last time I got done, an ANPR cam pinged me and sent me the £100 fine in the post.

I don't see the issue, seeing as they read it well enough to send me a fine in the post, but here we are.

Did you get stopped for the Alfa Romeo plate?

It's just the normal every Clio owner has one small front plate without the e marking or postcode, that's it. @Sunglasses_Ron they said active crack down on all dodgy plates currently in the local force so they're on it

@Cookson no mate, Alfa plate is all legal

I got pulled over 4 times with this plate on my Clio, would be very similar to yours. I never got a written warning or a fine, but I ended up ditching it as it wasn't worth the hassle keeping it on. Seems crazy that they've dumped a fine on you first time around.

Picking on small things is a great way to build rapport with the public I've found,

and then wonder why no f%cker wants to "help them with their inquiries"
The law is the law I suppose. Where do you draw the line?

Not that I agree it's fine worthy having no bs numbers on a plate. Why the f**k does it even matter?

Derbyshire force for you, they did the same for me on the Rover, proceed direct to fine, do not pass go, gimme £100

Was at a car meet in Derby with lots of coppers there, I didn't mind too much as it was amusing to watch all the badmanz have to rip of their illegal tints & other s**t at the side of the road 🤣

Ive been done 3 times for the usual clio front plate, first one years ago was £60 but the 2 that followed were £100 each, don't bother with them anymore.

The last guy was acting like it was crime of the century and he was doing the world a favour. he failed to notice the absence of diesel clatter and replacement of 2.0 16v power though :ROFLMAO:

years ago (25 plus years ago) someone I know had a car stolen. It was found and a policeman drove it back from where it was found. My I was talking to the owner a few weeks later and he said the copper told him it went well for a normal ploppy 1.6.

It had a RS turbo conversion in it and was chipped....the origin of the engine etc was a bit questionable shall we say.

I got a letter from the DVLA saying that I’d been spotted with illegal letter spacing by ANPR ( not a Clio). They requested that I sort out the issue and send them a pictureof it fixed which I did and they acknowledged that I’d fixed it. If I didn’t fix it they would take the plate off me.

The irritation was that DLVA sold me the “cherished” plate in the first place.

Who was not going to move a 4 next to a LEX to make 4LEX.

No police involvement in the situation
