I'm crap, help... computer question...

Hi all,

I'm wanting to build my own PC, but I've been out of the game for a while and I'm not sure what processor is the best. Basically I want to make it future proof (so 64 bit) and awesome at gaming... any ideas?

Cheers,

Dave

Get the Intel Core Duo E6300, about £125, unlike a few months ago when AMD were the kings for gaming, nothing AMD currently have (even flagship) can compete with Core Duo's
If you can stretch another £75 get the E6600 with 4Mb cache

  Clio 1.4 16v
Core 2 Duo, are the best processors for gaming/tasking full stop, no arguements, AMD are way behind them with their current range

  BMW e46 320 Ci Sport
core duo are top at the moment, by as much as 15% over the flagship amd equiv

I doubt you'll be able to find one these days, but if you're heading down the Intel route, please be careful to differentiate between Intel Core Duo and Intel Core 2 Duo, the latter being the latest and supports EM64T (64bit OS), whereas the Core Duo does not.

You are more likely to find a Core Duo in a laptop and it's a bit of a gotcha if you expected to run 64bit stuff on it.
