I'm new to induction kits and not used to there sounds

  1.8 8v RSi
i could be having a blonde moment here but im not sure....ive just fitted a K & N induction kit to my 1.4 clio....and as i've never had one on a car before im not sure how they sound except i knwo they give a bit of roar from the engine....this on mine is quite loud in comparison to the engine made before.....also.....
this is the bit that worrys me....there's a sound of like harsh air blowing threw a small hole kinda sound...quickly followed by a.....oh i dont know a kinda metaly squeeking sound...it sounds wierd and not too healthy.... but the engine temp stays down a lot mroe than usual when im drivin hard so it must be working....there is one pipe which wasnt mentioned in the instrustions that leads to manifold area n i have no idea what it does or where its supposed to go... would appreciate all the help u can give me...

im not 2 sure about ur sounds mate, but if ur talking about the small pipe going frm the old air box to the front of the engine then dnt worry about it at all just take it off mayb use it to make a cold air feed straight onto the k&n (striaghten it out and push it into the black air feed pipe and tighten the jubilee clip on it then position it towards the air filter

it should sound similar to a car with no filter. I revved mine when I had the filter out for a change once (1.6) to see what it sounded like. Sounds propper beasty. Take the filter off and see what it sounds like. Wont be exactly the same but will be an idea

the idea is an oem airbox is designed to muffle the engine noise. an open induction kit isnt so it should sound the same. maybe a little muffled

Sounds fine matey. The cotton gauze does give a good load roar compared to a foam filter which has a deeper note to it. Also, the noise sounds about right. The K&N will give a more pronounced airflow noise (as there air is being sucked through the filter) and it also sounds more whiny (if that makes sense).

the small pipe your talking about sounds like the breather pipe too me i think but im not 100% sure but it more or less just filters the nasty crud and acts like a smaller air filter to cover the hole up!! i got the pipercross cone filter and it had that small pipe on it and thats where it was says place it. dont worry about the gushing noise thats just the back pressure so to speak in the engine you normally would not hear that beacuase of the position or the standard filter and box covering it. dont worry about anything if engine temp ok and all that.

***might not make a lot of sense but read it a couple of times as as i was watching a film when i wrote this***

well thats ok but......i got to work today n looked under the bonnet just to make sure it was still there afte rnearly loosign it last time but to my horror.....i have now found a s**t load of oil over the rad bottle and the back of the engine and around a bit of the bottom of the front....what the hell has just happened? was it me installing it wrong somewhere or is it just coincidence that something went wrong with the engine after fitting it?

cant see how changing the airbox could make it spray oil.
There are 2 black caps on the right side of the engine (looking from front) you may have dislodged one of them as the air hose runs next to them but I cant see how they are usually pretty firm
