Immobiliser complete lock up

  Clio mk3
Hello,

I had issues with steering wheel on my Clio Mk3 2 yrs ago, replaced it with one from another Clio mk3. Now, because I had to change a lightbulb, I removed the battery and car did not start again. Local mechanic diagnosed a problem with immobiliser, had it towed to dealership, they hooked it up to a computer and found that immobiliser does not recognise steering wheel, so it prevents starting. The only solution they say is replacing the steering wheel with a brand new one, which costs almost as much as the car is worth. Any suggestions, what else can be done about this?

Wonder if deleting the immobiser would work. Not sure if it's something that can be done on mk3s. Someone will know.
