Immobiliser fault! :(

  VW Lupo GTi
i have a problem with my immobiliser.

when i put the key in the ignition and i get a rapid flashing light and STOP lights up. the engine will not start. I then have to leave it for sever minutes for it to start. Its like its resetting its self. Everytime i go to it in a morning the cars fine it will work but if i do a short journey like nipping to the petrol station i will be stuck there for ages! not good

how can this problem be fixed?

thankyou

Souns like a plip key / UCH problem to me. Not an easy fix - will need to take it to an independant or main dealer that has the clip software.

Your key, the black section you press to unlock your car. It contain's various electric component's that may have gone faulty.

Decoder ring or UCH problem then.

+1 - people always over look the decoder ring with "Immobiliser" problems and are quick to fly the UCH/Plip key fault flag. Diagnostics will say for sure but I'd put money on it being a faulty decoder ring.

IF it is the decoder ring at fault then it's a doddle job and no specialist equipment is required as it's not coded. Just remove the lower column surround, unplug the connector and slide the unit off the end of the ignition barrel.

I can't give you a price for a new unit i'm afraid as it's a dealer only part and i'm about to get balls deep in to a crankshaft oil seal change before home so i'd say give your local one a call... they should be able to give you at least 10% if you ask them nicely to ;)
