Immobiliser playing up

bought a 55 reg clio about 4 hours ago, went to tesco to fill up. got back in and it wouldnt let me turn the key round. got the garage we bought it from to come and get it and it started straight away with him. then he tried it again and it wouldnt let him turn the key. what is this?

Sounds like a worn key blade or ignition barrel rather than the immobiliser.
