Immobiliser Problems

Car  MG ZR x2, Polo, CTR
Hey Guys,
I'm fairly certain after searching high and low on here that I'm having an immobiliser issue.

4 weeks after buying my ph2 172, the cam follower gave in and took most of the shaft and head with it. So, a complete new engine later and all is happy.

Until yesterday.... now, by this point I've put about 1.5k on the engine, when it died at roadside, no warning, no splutter, just dead. with the 'stop' light and the 'oil' light.

I tried to restart it, and it turns over fine aslong as you try instantly, if you leave it more than about 5 seconds you get nothing, but as soon as it fires, it cuts out.

The immobiliser light flashes away happily, and goes solid red when it's cranking.

Is there an easy way to disable it to get to work tomorrow, or am I in for another expensive french headache?

it can be removed search the forums>

Try to reset using red button under the bonnet, then try to disconnect the battery for 30 mins, then from inside car lock and hold the interior locking mechanism for over 10 ses until it inlocks itself.

Along the way these things fixed my car......

a mate of mine has this prob try holding the button on the key while trying to start it works for him

There's no button under the bonnet as it's a ph2, and my interior lock button doesn't work (which is fairly irritating)

The immobiliser light should go out whilst cranking, mine also stay's lit, turns over ect. Mines at Renault now where it as been for a week, and even with there so called knowledge they are unable to get the car to start. Il let you know when and if they sort it.

Wouldn't the immobiliser light flash if that was the problem. I'd be checking all electrical connections first

av u tried this matey??????

Yea, tried everything mentioned so far.

Phoned Motorline Renault in Canterbury today and got told to phone elsewhere for help 'coz they were in the middle of lunch

Phoned Motorline in Ashford and was told they would offer no help without seeing the car.

Starting to wish I'd gone for the Fiesta ST when I had the chance.

Quick update for those interested / with same issue.

Had a guy from Renault call me back and swear blind it's a dead battery causing the issue. Haven't tried it yet, but he is willing to lay money down that's the problem, and that's without seeing the car.

Will update again when it works, or not.

Tried the new battery last night, guess what!

That's right, sweet FA, good news though, is that the Renault techie owes me 30 notes, guess that's going towards the repair bill now though.

It's getting trailered off to the stealers today now.

Had similar poblems mate, had mine towed to Renault in the end to save messing about. They had it for over a week and wanted to charge me 250 sheets just for trying to find the fault. (Note they never found the fault)

In the end i realised they were f*ucking useless and ive had it towed to Cit-Ren now as they seem to have a better idea of what the fault is.

IMO Steer clear of the dealers, theyre only interested in easy fixes and waranty work. Try and locate specialist near to you, ie Ktec, Birchdown, Cit-Ren who ever.

Check the earth wire on the gearbox , 2 of them by the way.
If not disconnect the UCH for a while.
Otherwise its dealer or specialist with clip system to sort it.

Will do, hadn't tried that yet, the earths are all fine, that was checked over when i changed the battery, just incase.

Anybody recommend anywhere in Kent?
