Immobilisers

  Renault Clio 1.4 RT
Hi all. I've just bought a Mk1, Ph2 1.8 16V. It's an M reg so that's 1994 right?

Can anyone tell me if this model will have a factory fitted Renault immobiliser or not? Also, it's got an aftermarket Toad immobilser on it (called a Powerkey) and it needs a new fobb thing. I was quoted £65.00 from my local approved Toad supplier but then quoted £25.00 from the local company who i've used before (they are not Toad suppliers but are perfectly good.) Does this sound likely as i just want to check that anyone can re-programme these fobbs, not just Toad people?

Also, has anyone had any experience with Cobra alarms & if so are they any good.

Help appreciated, thanks.

M reg is a phase 2 or 3 so it will have an imobiliser.

Cobra alarms are good although its down to the installer. Renault all used Cobra alarms.

Toad are probably the only people who can code keys.

whoever fitted my immoboliser was certainly not a professional. They had put it near the ignition switch, the first place they would look when trying to hotwire it. Also they had only isolated the starter motor so it would have still started if you bump started it.

I fitted a new Microscan one that cuts the power to the coil and fuel pump and had most of the dash out to fit it. Whoever tried to start would have to do the same.

Ive never inspected a professionally fitted one but i would be interested to what extent they try...

I used to have a 1.4 Polo with a factory alarm that kept going off. Pulled the right fuse and never had a problem with it again :)

M Reg Ph3 :S
M = 1994 / 1995 :)
Phrase 3 = 1996 +

Did they even make a ph3 valver ?

:p Mr Haynes has had a mis-print in one of his pages :)

It will have an immobilizer if, It's only the ph1 valvers with out.
