3 year warranty!
Not strictly true, however some people have had hastle from the dealers about it.

Oh and you also get a lower trade in valuation.

I paid around £2k less for an import 172 last year and just traded it in and only lost £1k more at trade in that had it been a full UK car. Result.

I never had any issuse with the warranty either.

Basically its just the alarm, window etching, AA cover and locking wheel nuts. And you cant always specify the Cup options.

mines an import 172 mk 2
it has no cat1 immobi,
no locking nuts
only anti corr waranty(apparently)
instructions in duch
but on a positive note..has one tuch both sides
i dont think it has traction cont or esp either
:(

Look at it this way you pays your money you make your choice. Im a lazy f**ker and couldnt be bothered to worry about having any hastles, so went to the main dealer with the import price and he came reasonably close to matching it once Id allowed for alarm fitting etc.

ESP and traction depend on the age, not where it came from.

It should have an immobilisor just no alarm!

I have special Powers. ;)

Import prices are alot closer to dealer prices these days. When I purchased my 172 back at the beginning of 2003 there was a massive saving to be made, and I certainly didnt loose out come trade in time.

All imports from within the EU have now been given 3 yr warranty, just not cyprus ones

People who buy from dealers are mugs, there is a 3k saving to be made on a purchase from most importers and still people go to a dealer.

All the cars come off the same production line and end up here. They are brand new and have the same engine, gearbox and shell as a u.k car but still someone wants to give away 3k because there nervous about it not selling later on.The only good deal is friends and family but these are a huge minority which helps get the salesman a good start to his bonus...

Take a look in autotrader and see the virtually non existant difference in price agianst uk /import.When you buy an import you go to your dealer with the bill of sale from your importer and by law he has to give you 3 yr waranty..Lee m had a letter on this from renault u.k to verify this sometime ago.People need to wake up to rip off britain and realise they are giving money away.

If we as a country said "SOD THIS" and all started buying imports do you really believe the garages in this country would keep their prices the same.People are slowly turning which is why places like motorpoint are selling thousands of cars a week, its only dealers putting the frightners on unsuspecting owners that keeps the dealers ahead....I hope it changes soon....

i agree partly with what you say although it is not as relevant these days, 2 years ago what you say would have been true but the situation has changed.

I got a 182 for pretty much the same price as an import and mine was from a dealer, I was also able to choose my colour and options and with a 182 this is important as most people will want the cup options and you will be hard pushed to find these at the import places.

Loads of people off here have managed to buy 182s at near enough the same price as an import so i would say that these days you are a mug if you do go down the import route as it is VERY EASY to get the right amount of discount on a UK car with the options you want and without all the hassles that can be associated with an import.

In fact the only advantage I can see with an import is the shorter delivery time, but you will have to forgo those nice options that everyone will be looking for when you come to see the car.

Just my opinion from my experiences.

Some good points dave 182,i can agree with some of that.It would still be good to stuff the dealers where it hurts and give everyone the same price.

Fancy that, having to deal with a car garage to get the price down of a foreign car in your own country. Why do people pay up.Why cant people stick together and say give me it at that set price price or sod off
