import or uk

Hello

Im about to purchase a new 182. I cant decide whether to buy an import now or wait 5 weeks for a uk version. Whats the difference apart from only 2 year warranty and no alarm on an import?

Any help would be much appreciated.

get alot less when you sell it! if you can afford a uk version, i would wait. b worth it in the end!:D

I can live with losing AA cover and glass etching.

Why will I get less or hassle or both when I sell? Please explain.

Its the same spec as a uk isnt it? Same car?

Can you tell me more?

As you said, same spec apart from Cat 1 Alarm. Provided the car was imported from within the EU, you will get a full three year warranty. LeeM has more info on this, do a search....

Imports generally sell for less second hand, not sure why exactly (all the Renaultsport models are made in the same factory!!) apart from the fact people know if its an import, you paid less for it in the first place!!!

( and people have misconceptions of them being sub-standard somehow, for some reason....)

Depending on the saving - possibly opt for import. Brought mine 2 months ago - brand new - unregistered, with me being the first doumented owner. Saved £4k on the Renault list price. Personally if I paid the UK list I would be a little less pleased with the car and myself - dont get me wrong great car "driving - performance - handling" but read any posting in these forums and youll find the build quality a little sub-standard.

save the cash, a renault is a renault no matter where its built, plus you dont have to talk to the smarmy gits @ renault i hate them salesmen.

now is is just as cheap to get a uk car as it is an import so I would go for the uk car, 4 years ago it would have been a different story but theres no point in imports now, more hassle than the saving!

I bought my first mk 1 172 as an import,i was first owner,it was first registered in uk,paid £11300 for it,they were £16k at the time.I crashed it after a year and a half and the insurance gave me £11500 for it,as it was first registered in uk,they knew no better and i wasnt telling them.

buy the import, you will get less for it when you sell. but you will pay less when you buy it........;)

and if you do what i did when we sold our saxo, and take it back to the place we bought it from, they gave me a much better trade in price, (£1500 more then the dealers would) and we got an import 172 so no real loss:cool:.

and dealers are just upset that you did not buy from them, at there over the top price, so they try to sting you when you take it in to trade, they know there is no difference in the cars, as long as it UK spec there just pi**ed off. and as a mate found out most private buyers dont care if its an import as long as its UK spec and selling at a good price.........!

Ive got a mk2 import, apart from the missing alarm and no locking wheel nuts, its the same car, but cheaper. Make sure you find out which country its from. If its within the EU youll be alright for the 3 years warranty, if its from outside, you may get a year from the place you bought it, but then you can start modding it earlier and not worry about it whether itll affect youre warranty!

I was offered 6k for my 02 reg import at a dealer, I said no way, he rang me within 10mins to offer 7k, still no way...a week later he offered 8k or a 2k reduction on the 182 and free metalic paint...go at the end of the month to get a good deal from a dealer......

Depends on the price, if the import is much cheaper then go for the import. The resale value is relative to the price you paid so it shouldnt make much difference. I would have no problem buying import again and I have had 2 import 172s.

I think you need to shop around for imports - I mean I got the boot net, mats, locking wheel nuts, full 3 year warranty, the only thing I didnt get was the alarm. But I only paid 10995. Mine is also only registered in the UK

Its full UK-spec apart from the alarm.
