import question

my 02 172 is a eu import - full uk spec etc. When I had my first service the dealer had no record and concluded it was an import which i knew anyway. The question is: Is there anyway of regestering it on the uk database?

Cheers

When they serviced your car they should have taken the relevant details and entered them into the database. From the VIN they should have been able to determine where the car was originally destined for.

If not call Renault customer services with your VIN and registration details. There number is: 0800 072 33 72 I think.

I dont know. When mine went in for its first bit of work at 3 weeks old the service guy just took the details of the badge inside the door and entered it on the system.

Anyone who knows anything about Clios (not dealers then) can spot an import.

Funny thing,

I was unlucky enough to discover my mk 2 (2002) 172 was originally imported from Malta - therefore no extended dealer warranty. However, quite luckily I think I have a "middle of the week, just after the renault coffee break" car, as apart from an annoying rattle from the rear seat the car has been perfect.

However, I did try to apply for an extended warranty - of course, I failed. Since then whenever I apply for online insurance my reg comes up as a 1.2 dynamic (98-99)??? Before my extended warranty application my reg was unrecognised by the insurance database. Even when I go on the tesco insurance web page (who currently insure my car) it comes up as a 1.2). My cover note states my car as a 172, and I have checked to make sure its got a 2.0l engine (before anyone asks).

Mine shows as a 1.2 Dynamic on insurance sites also. Mine is an EU import so I do get the extended warranty.

What is it with renault then - they dont know the difference between their own cars!!!

I am actually really positive about the lack of the dealer warranty thing!! (my brother got screwed by renault cardiff when he needed warranty work done). It just means that I have to regularly modify my car to check that nothing is going wrong (I dont have to worry about it voiding my warranty, haha. I am hoping to post pictures of my new brembo brakes once they are finished {k-tecs 172 big brake conversion, not yellow callipers though as I didnt like the contrast} ), and as I wont be selling it until it is over three years old I wont loose out too bad.
