Import Warranty - Help

  Mazda 2, MX5 Mk2.5 Sport

Anybody know what the score is with my warranty. Brought the car in march from motorhouse2000 and they said Id got a 2 year warranty. Went to renault who say even though the car was first registered in the UK in March It was previously registered abroad in December so that is when my warranty starts...fair enough I thought only lost 3 months. But then the chap said Ive only got a 12 month warranty....is this right???

Is there anything else I need to worry about with an import??

did you know that foriegn imports differ from uk ones ?? there ECU,s are sometimes different because of the pollution regulations in different countries - renault have to programme each country different in order to pass there specific emmision laws. The part number of an ecu for a british car is different from the part number for a car destined for the netherlands for example. There emmision laws are more strict than ours - do you think that this could possibly make there cars slower ? - its an interesting thought.

Its got 3 years from the date Renault gave you. Provided of course its been serviced by Renault dealers.

First year is manufacturers, 2nd and 3rd are dealer covered, and they dont cover the full costs.

PM me your email address and Ill send you a copy of the letter Renault UK send out to owners of EU imports with regard to warrenties.

I almost got mine from Motorhouse 2000 as its down the road from where I live, but they couldnt match the price of Motorpoint.

Id heard that CB1A. Any idea what the differences are for each territory?

Most imports over here are from Holland, Belium and France I believe, with some also coming from Malta.

Did you know that interior trim can also be different for foriegn imports - i know this because we sometimes get people with imports ordering parts & we have a look at the part they require on there car & weve never seen it on a uk car before ---- does anybody know that they do a RENAULT CLIO ESTATE CAR. its not a bad looking motor really. also they do a megane estate. The reason they dont import them into the uk is that they would compete with the scenic sales too much i think. And they also do a long wheel base clio - for the taxi drivers in france. eeuuugghh.

They are welcome to them:)

I like the Megane Scenic. My boss used to have a 2.0 litre Monaco. It was a nice comfy drive.

I see they are going to do a Grand Scenic. Doesnt that defeat the object of the Scenic being a small people carrier?

Scenic is the most stupid car on the planet. What can you do in a Scenci that you cant do in a hatch or estate car? Oh, Ive remembered - you can alter the height of the parcel shelf. Great.

Don;t get me wrong - if people like them, then of course they should buy them. But buy coz you like it, not because of this belief that you can do more with it because, relatistically, you cant.

Having a bad day g? A rant out of nowhere ;)

He chose it because he liked it. He liked the driving position and the full leather. Not that it matters now as we both got made redundant and lost our company cars. Allowing me to buy the Clio :D

lo Rod.

Nah, as I said, if people like them then they should buy them. I just wish theyd think when they say I bought it coz its great for the kids or something and when you ask why is it great for the kids, they sort of go erm, well, you know, erm, the seats come out and the parcel shelf moves up and down and can hold 70kgs.

Although scenic owners with kids also say that its height makes it much easier for strapping the little people into it, and Im happy with that example.

He thought about kids. Although he didnt have any at the time. He also figured that if my Focus was too small we could get a Dell PowerEdge server in the Scenic with the seats out. Not that we needed too, the Focus was tardis like.

I also got mine from the Motorhouse2000 last September and have got the same problem. I had some warranty work done in wolverhampton and like yours mine had been registered in July.

Ive seen quite a few posts on here about getting the full warranty on imports, I think that VivJ was the last to post about this.

Ive got a copy of the letter that has been displayed on here a few times. The only thing that confuses me is that you have to prove that ithas been serviced by Renault. My car hasnt had its first service yet so I cant do that. Anyone got any ideas????

Its unlikely they will argue about Warrenty work within the first 12 months. After this time you will have most likely had your first service. You can then apply for your 3 years worth. Thats my plan anyway. It worked for VivJ.

So far Ive had a couple of things done under warrenty without any problems.

You dont live around Cannock do you?

CB1A...? Mines an import from Jeffries Farm in Crawley and since day one the trip computer hasnt worked (it does trip mileage but none of the other fuel consumption calcs...). I know the button works cos when you hold it it whilst turning on the ignition the dash goes nuts doing its self test...

Can you tell me if my variant (registered originally in France) didn[t have it fitted? Its a CB1N.

My local dealer (Tates, Brighton) will fix it under warranty theyve told me but Im scared when they get the dash of theyll find its not broken but not fitted...!
