Do an internet search. Airbags dont save lives. They were invented for the American market because they dont wear seat belts so often there. An aig bag with a seat belt is next to useless. If your worried about side swiping get a 4x4.
If airbags worked effectively in any way they would be on formula one cars. But as the drivers wear seat belts they are not needed.
They were tested. airbags are not effective on f1 cars purely because of the forces involved.

The hans device is far more affective in such cars that produce such forces

Euro spec bags are not to be confused with us spec air bags (much much larger) As euro airbags offer fantastic head protection in the right type of accident/crash. This wasnt one of those situations so the airbags werent deployed.

The airbags are also only great if you are within certain height limits, if youre to short and it smacks only the top part of your head, too tall and your head will go over the top of the bag as it impacts you - also the charge that goes off can give some serious burns - although these are ok if it has just saved your life.
I agree this is often due to incorrect seat adjustment.
A side-swipe of the car would not have an impact of 40+mph, just no way the lorry could make that sort of speed sideways.
Again with you on that one.
