In dash display

on my mk1 172, when i change my head unit for a non-renault unit, apart from getting a lead to make the steering wheel stalk controls work with the head unit, what if anything will work on the in-dash display ???

will it work at all ??? is there some cunning adapter i can buy ???

i thought i read something about just the temp and seatbelt light working and that was it??

You need connects2.co.uk, they make an adaptor for Sony units that allows you to still use the stalk controller and the display screen.

hey vr6man.the clock and temp gauge still work, your just loose the rest.ive got a blaupunkt head unit with the steering wheel controls but no display .sorry dont fink it can be done for the other bit.grant

you keep the time and display, i think the benifits from an uper market head unit far out weigh losing a sh1ty display

furry muff

just wondered...

im thinking of getting that sony ME5XDGI thingy with the funky screen on it

saw one of these in halfords playing a video on the screen and decided i may have to buy one

so yes, the in-dash display, i can live without

I am afraid I am going to have to disagree with you there ClioJohn, I think Sony headunits are very good, sound quality is awesome, and is even good on the cheaper units. I have heard alot of head units and I feel that the sonys are the best. Sony have alot more money to be putting into car audio development than other companies and have been producing compact audio devices for years, therefore have a greater knowledge of how to do things. What other car audio company has had an advert on TV for its ICE products, I know i cant think of one. Also from a user point of view i find that Sony think though the ergonomics and the functionality of their units alot better than others. Anyway enough of my sony trip Each to their own i suppose, i wont touch kenwood with a stick cos of a bad experience with one so maybe you had the same.

And no i dont work for sony

your choice mate, but u ask most people. sony suck ass.

post a message on www.caraudiodirect.com and ask about sony.

I/ my mates regularly compete in audio related things (sound quality / Db Drag) and precious little people use sony or panasonic headunits in that arena - that said some of my mates have sony head units and have had no problemos with them, I have a kenwood one myself and have been very impressed.

just go down like halfords or whatever and listen to a few different ones and then make a decision on that.

Points read and taken in people Everyone has there own likes and dislikes, i like sony, you like kenwood end of story.

i like sony as well

but before we go off on any conversations about sound quality blah blah blah, i dont really care that much

yes.. the standars speakers arent good.. so i will get some new ones... i might even get some sony ones

but at the end of the day, as long as my head unit does lots of clever things and has lots of flashing lights to keep my passengers amused then im happy

Hello,

You can keep the incar display when you change ur radio!

you get all the radio names, track titles (from CD or minidisc)....

The difference it the stalk lead price jumps from about 30 quid to 70.

You can buy these for Alpine for definate and i think that sony and pioneers are just round the corner
