Infinity Kappa 52.5i

Alright guys,

I have finally sorted a few things out with my car, after my car got broken into, and now think its time to upgrade the sound Im getting from my car. I currently have a Alpine headunit and Sony 6x9s that were in the car when i bought it. I would like to change the front speakers most importantly, and then add some tweeters in the top of the dash, after this I want to rid of the 6x9s and get a new parcel shelf in and replace them with components and add a sub.

I have seen some Infinity Kappa 52.5i 5.25"/13cm speakers in the doors, as I have seen good reviews about them, although will i be better off getting a component system instead? Also what is people opinions on the Infinity speakers? are there better for the price out there? I can get them for £73.

I hope this makes sense.

Matt

the inifitys are quite good as far as coxails go IMO, well if they are the ones with the angled rotatable tweeter. But IMO comps would be better, but sh*tty cheap comps wont!!!

Why put comps in the parcel shelf? whay have rear speakers? have any speaker in the parcel shelf is not a good idea unles you build a sealed enclosure under them, make sure they are running totally in pahse with the sub. This is becasue the sub in the boot will use the whole boot as an enclousre (especially if sealed) (if ported more air will be moving around in boot so same effect can occur). The speakers sitting in the parcel shelf will also use the boot as an enclosure, as the sub is much more powerfull shifting more air, it wil effectily be pussing and pulling the speakers in the parcel shelf, and will damage them.

If i were you, sell the 6*9s and spend as much money as you can on comps (£150 would be good), then save up for a 4 channel amp and a sub. Well actually it depends what your looking for in your sound system - sound quality, street bass, spl or sql.

hope some of that helps

Ok thanks for the advice. Have you got links to any decent components there please?

I was going to replace the OE rear speakers instead of putting speakers in the parcel shelf, less inviting to thiefs.

I was looking at these tweeters for the top of the dash, http://www.pioneer-eur.com/eur/product_detail.jsp?product_id=1607&taxonomy_id=25-131http://www.pioneer-eur.com/eur/product_detail.jsp?product_id=1607&taxonomy_id=25-131

And this Vibe 12" sub for my boot. http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=2457http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=2457

Thanks again.

well, you wont need the extra tweeters if you buy the comps - whats your budjet for your comps, infact what is it for the system as a whole?

Dont know they tweeters, pioneer as good at making low cost OK speakers, but dont seem to make any really good speakers, so im not sure - but would these be a tepory thing until you got the comps? if not, why are you looking for 2 sets of tweeters?

Im not a fan of the vibe subs to be honest! for that money you could do somehitng better in terms of SQ and volume. but would take a bit of building (the box for the sub) then you could just screw the amp to the box.

what type of music do you listen to? and what kind of system you looking for (low down and dirty and fun!!! or quality?)

Also i dont have any rear speaker, i disconected mine, as i didnt like the way they dragged my sound staging back, and i know of many other people who have spent well into the thousands who are of the same belif!

I was thinking of getting the Kappas and tweeters OR components.

Not entirely sure on my budget, as I havent really planned it though that well so far, just trying to get some ideas together for it. I would be buying bits for it one bit at a time, because of the flow of money.

I listen mainly to Trance, Dance, and some Garage, although I do listen to mostly anything.

for music with a fast bass line, a smaller sub might be better, say 8 or 10. i would say comps first, then say a 4 channel amp, then sub later.

Any parts that you suggest being good? What would the 4 channel amp power? The components and the sub or would i need another amp for the sub?

Thanks for your help so far.

well if you could spend around £100 - £150 on comps

amps

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=3594http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=3594 - seems a good starting amp (use it to run sub and comps), you could then get a 2nd amp for sub later, and use this just for comps

But id say go 2nd hand for an amp have a look in http://www.talkaudio.co.ukwww.talkaudio.co.uk in the classified

Subs - make sure you get the right voice coil config, so it fitrs with your amp (dual 4 can be run at 2 or 8) (dual 2 at 1 or 4)
