Info please guys (94 Laguna 2.016v RXE)

[Clio 1.216v Dynamique]

Its my dads motor, When your in First gear just pulling away from a parking space say at slow speeds it just pops out of first and into neutral unless you keep your hand on it so it dont, it does this pretty much all the time in first but its only first which does it. Any ideas,

Either a fucked linkage cable/synchroniser unit/selector fork. My money is on the selector fork though..

Gearbox is fucked ( main bearings / planetary shaft ) - will be a JC5 037. Very common fault - very hard to get hold off. That laguna was fitted with a Volvo N7Q engine hence the rarity.
