inlet question

  Astra van,Mk1 nova
been thinking the past couple of days, is there a conversion inlet manifold for the 172. Like the diabas conversion inlet for the corsa b gsi c16xe engine, basically a shortend inlet for less drag!

They can also be made! Has anyone ever done this? Anyone know where i can find out more info about this as there doesnt seem to be anything on it?

Maybe it cant be done and im being stupid, but i just had to ask:)

I thought about this area of the intake system too.

Sure diabas made a inlet for the 172's but wasnt it stupid ££££ ?

Ben R is / was developing something i belive but not sure where he's at with it or if its still going to be done

From what i posted up in a previous topic, sure there was a question mark over it could lose torque ? might be wrong, it was a pretty old thread

I've done this on my 1600. It seems MORE torquey if anything, probably because of the design to to velocity stacks. Give Ben a ring mate, see what he can do, numbers on the website....

Yeah was wondering what sort of inlet you had mate:) have you had any r/r's done since you fitted the inlet? where about is this guy bens number :D

No, im waiting for it to be mapped fully and then obviously I'll know outputs. Ill have no idea what gains it'll give on its own though as I have cams, headwork etc too!
I'll PM you his number mate....

That is done and dusted, however we are trying to find ways to manufacture it that wont cost the earth, its an incredibly complex design to manufacture 'traditionally'.

I might be tempted to make one out of pure billet (about £300 worth of ally alone before any manufacture), check gains/losses (its significantly shorter than stock), see if anybody is interested and do a run of castings.

DO IT! If you can use that standard ECU and get decent gains, more people would buy it, dependant on costs obviously.

Yea, but i'll show you when you come down the manufacturing complexity required to get a manifold that has a decent plenum size and runner length whilst keeping port roof and floor lengths equal.

Per unit its cheaper for us to get it made of carbon for small runs!

Carbon would be pimp as f**k though...

Could you not copy mine but with 2.0 port spacing?

we've already designed it, but like i say, more complex...just because of the fitment of all the OEM equipment placement.
