I wanna get rid of my 6*9s, and replace with a sub, and cross overs for the front components (already got them), partly for security, dont wanna have speakers on display, and every one on here says that going without 6*9s sounds better.

I still want some boot space, and listen to pretty much all kinds of music, so want a good allround sub, that is quite small (one half of the boot?).

Any Advice would be great.

Thanks.

Oh, where can i get a bee-sting aerial from, and do they do one that isnt a horrible coloured aluminium style?

Get a stealth shelf for your 6x9s, theres your security sorted :)

Just fit the one 12" sub in box this will only fill half the boot so the rest can be used for your shopping lol

Usually some good offers in Maxpower, stay away from Ripoff (ripspeed) if your buying sounds though only use them for your box for the sub.

Ive got a bee sting aerial on mine, just a shorter version, dunno where it came from though cause its not the standard one, was fitted when i bought the car.

ditch the 6x9s completely, amp your front components ( you dont even need rear fill...

get a 12" sub in a sealed box, dont bother with a ported box if you listen to a variety of styles, as porting limits the subs performance to certain styles and you can easily stick it to one side of the boot, leaving you room for the shopping :p

if your not into heavy heavy bass, then a 10" would suffice, but youd sacrifice some of the deeper bass... have a look on ebay for stuff...

one point i cant stress enough is, make sure the amp is up to it, no point buyin a 1000000000w RMS sub if your amp is only 100w RMS as youll end up cranking the amp up full, causin distortion and burning the ass right out of the sub ( the voice coil )

if you can afford it, get a monoblock amp for the sub, and a seperate 2 channel amp for the front components, or a 4 channel which can be bridged to 2.. no need for extreme amounts of RMS in the front speakers, as youll have no back fill to compete with ( e.g. 6x9s ) theyll sound lovely and clear, and the setup will be the doggies... go for something like 70 - 100w RMS for the front speakers..

this is, after all assuming your not planning a showstopping ICE install ?? :p

alright fella - was thinking about porting my sub - what styles would you say a ported sub would suit best?

can be anything if you try hard enough, you need to tune them by changing the port length / width... however, they are best suited to hip hop ish stuff and they are ot jus as resposive as a well built sealed box for punchy rolling bass...

Thanks guys.

I cant be arsed with the 6*9s any more, i can see why everyone slates them, theyre a jack of all trades and a master of none. You wouldnt run everything through your mid speaker at home, so why do it in the car.

ebee, what sort of price for what you were talking about? Dont mind playing for good quality, just depends how long i have to wait.

Thanks a lot Folks.

Im selling it but basically as the side of the box is moudled to the side of the boot it takes up a little less space, and is only velcroed in so an be lifted out of the boot completely if you disconnect the sub. Easy access to the spare etc too.

to be honest, why spend more on a sub than on an amp to power it??

i can guarantee that the sub will not be used to its full potential

try somethign along the lines of

Phoenix Gold Octane R 5.04 amplifier with

A/D/S/ R12S subwoofer,

comes to the same value as yours would, yet will sounds much cleaner and crisper than most set-ups
