Insurance and modifications

Car  Honda & VW
Do insurance companies class any different/not original part as a modification?
For example: you have a Clio 172/182 and put a set of Turini's on it, is that a modification? I am assuming they would say yes it is!???? But potentially it couls have been an optional extra?

Insurers need to know about any changes made to the vehicle from when it left the factory. Insurers systems more will not pick up all optional extras.

is it different to how it rolled off the production line?

It's a modificaiton

did you have to pay extra for it when it was spec'd up buy the first buyer? Then it's an optional extra.

both of which, insurers like to know about.

PLENTY of threads that cover this.

Sod knows why as it's common sense

It can get all a bit silly though. Orange alloys aren't standard from the factory this side of a DS3 or GT3 RS. So you spray them yourself and that becomes a modification to the factory standard - in the strictest sense.

It depends how anal the insurance company in question is.
