Insurance conundrum (spelling)

  TT 225
Basically i have 2 year driving experience. 1 non fault accident last year. Been driving on my ma's insurance but now i want my own insurance.

The problem is. The accident has affected my mums no claims because we needed the car repaired quickly so we went thorugh our insurance in good faith that it would be claimed off the other guys insurance when they sort it out and re-emburse the NCB. nearly 10 months later the claim is still outstanding, our premium has risen £500 (because of claim) and we still havent got our £400 excess back. I cant get insured on my own policy as no-one will touch me with an outstanding claim.

I want to put coilovers, wheels etc on my new clio except i want to declair them.

Now my dads saying that i wouldnt even bother telling the current insurance company about the coilovers because we wont ever claim through our insurance again as it would have been cheaper (in the long run) to repair our car ourself. He said if you ever have another accident and they refuse to pay out for our car, we WILL be covered legaly for third party repairs. Is this right?

I'm quite suprirised he's said this as his opinion was alot like everyone on here in that if i made changes to the car i have to tell them as it covers our arses if anything happens. As they have taken the piss and were now £900 out of pocket and no NCB (2 years worth £400 maybe) that its not worth claiming for our car again.

Sorry for the confusing story.

to cut the story short if you cba reading that wedge:

If you are insured fully comp and you are responsible for a collision with abother vehicle and the insurance company refuse to pay out for your car because of modifications then will the third parties repairs still be payed for?

If you crash with non declared coilovers on TPFT, The Insurance will not pay out to the people you crash into.

Scenario:

You with your un-insured car (which technically it is, as any undeclared mods can and will void your insurance) crash into a car. Insurance come out, look at your car and void your insurance. You then become liable for the other persons car (what if its a 100k merc?), go to court etc etc get points/banned etc etc.

Not worth it... Oh and your dads wrong mate lol. No matter what level of cover you have, if you haven't declared something they can void it no issues.

technically this is true, although the insurance company can try and claim the money back off you in the event of a claim

alltough is this is a rediculous way of thinkin!! and if this happens you will have to declare that you have had your policy voided, therefore you will find it pretty much impossible to get insurance in the future

Sounds like you may as well go TPFT, then they wont bother checking your car and you can repair it yourself
