Right I am 20 years old, have 1 years no claims in April. I really want to get insured on a 172, but the cheapest I can find is £1800 off Elephant. I know people my age have not paid that much, whats the secret? Can anyone suggest what I should do i.e go third party under my Dad until April when I have a years no claims or even October when I am 21? Or is there anywhere else that will do it cheaper that I cannot find.

I'm having trouble getting good quotes too. Picking my 172 up on Saturday and the cheapest quote i have so far is with admiral at £1150 fully comp. I've already got a car insured by Bell, i would have stuck with them but they don't offer discount to insure a second car so i will more than likely be going with elephant or admiral.
Your 19....how did you manage to get it for £1150?

I only had mine at 18 due to been on fleet insurance.

Can't answer that one lol, i was only paying £800 on my 106 GTI last year. Us girls always seem to get good insurance deals, though female only insurance companies arn't that great. £1150 is good, don't think i'll find any better.

Have you tried FlexiBell (part of Bell.com) ? You can pick and choose what you want your insurance to cover, you can effectively knock a couple of hundred pounds off standard cover but it would mean paying more excess should anything ever happen.

Out of interest though, what are the implications of having your own can on fleet insurance?? And what kind of saving do you get??
I would hazard a guess you don't get an "official" NCD.
I am thinking this could save me money.
