Insurance issues

  FTO GPX Mivec
Just renewed my insurance and was dissapointed to find that your premium goes up if you have (like in my case) a engine replacement. (standard like for like)

how that can effect your insurance ill never knowafter all the there are no changes to the performance of the car.

how do they know you have had replacement engine?

Bizarre that it should go up I agree. But like for like is not a modification.

Unless it was different than the original, I wouldn't have thought u would need to tell them.

Engine conrod snapped so had to have a transplant engine which was exactly the same spec. standard 172cup engine.

Was listed under modifications for engine as I have inlets matched + remap.

It will be the mods that have affected it probably. Think the engine transplant bit is for if you've got a different engine in (bigger etc)

the mods do effect it yes, but quotes without anything other than a standard replacment engine knocked my prem. up also

Im still confused, you should just be telling them about the mods, the fact the engines been replaced is irrelevent, if you insurer is charging you for that then I suggest you shop around.

Who you insured with?

Are there any other factors affecting you renewal? such as points, NCB, postcode change?

so, question is, should i declare the engine change with the insurance company as its a like for like change?

simply no. You wouldnt tell them in you had a new anything else..... your fine as long as its OE(original equipment). You just need to tell them about the mods, although im not sure they would know tbh, but thats a risk.

I agree a like for like engine shouldnt affect ur premium.
My bro had an H reg micra for his 1st car, which the engine had blown on. anyway to cut a long story short, the original 1.2 engine was replaced with a 1.0 all was well until my mum went to insure it for my bro. gave the reg and the insurers said "its a 1.2 gsx, that will be £750 for the year" my mum not knowing about the engine change said "no its a 1.0" anyway after a dispute they came back and said "ok that will make the premium £1000, as its been modified!"

so even smaller engines mean bigger premiums!
