insurance payouts

  Clio MK 4
Had the car written off last tuesday due to woman going into me. She admitted it and i have gone through her insurance so i dont get effected and dont pay anything. Any way friday her insurance rang me to take it to a garage to get an estimate on damages and thye got me a courtesy car. Monday get a call from the garage and they say it estimates 4k to fix (write off) and they will send the details to the insurance and they will contact me.

It now thursday and not had a call from the insurance. How long does it take? I'm not too fussed as i have a courtesy car which is costing nothing but just wondered. Will my car be at the garage still until its been officially written off and so i can get my personal belongings?

you might have to give them a push to speed things up, but if you're not bothered i'd leave it. You considering buying back your car to sell off as parts?

don't know if i'm going to buy it back. depends how much it will cost and if i would make much more after selling parts. Plus i don't have a drive and park on the street so can't really pull it apart there

Depending what insurance company you are with mate, the engineer will have to go to the garage and inspect. That could take a few days.

If it is done by images then you will probably here from the insurance company before the garage do. Give them a phone and they can tell you what stage it's at and make sure and engineer is looking at it or has looked at it.

give me a shout if you dont want to buy it back yourself bud, i might be interested in it

also you can pm me your reg if you like and i can have a look and see if my company is dealing with it?

do they still need to send someone because the garage did the inspection and added it all up and said they were sending the estimate to the insurance. The garage is nationwide repairs and are something to do with AVIVA which is the womans insurance who hit me.

Well the insurance company will either need images or someone to go look at it.

They can't just take the garages word for it. They might have down for something it doesn't need.

is that what garages do, oh my this is a real insight!

;) :rasp:

When my car was repaired, the garage quoted the insurance for loads of things, including a new radiator. I knew this as a mate works at the Renault garage they got the parts from.

They didn't fit a new radiator, so I went back and asked for it. They looked at me in disgust ;)

^ Oh are you claiming that bodyshops charge insurance companies for parts not actually fitted to the car?

Man that's preposterous.
