INSURANCE QUESTION

  Partner's Astra SRi
I have a question about my insurance.

I'm with Direct Line and when I got my insurance I had to estimate how much mileage I will do in a year. I'm sure it's the same with all insurance quotes.

Well, I've gone WAY over my estimate. Does that cause a problem???....my friend said it makes your insurnace invalid. Is this true? Does this mean my renewal quote will be more expensive?

Maybe I'm just being blonde but I really need someone to put my mind at ease!

Thank you

I'd ring them and tell them, they may charge you more depending on the company and I'm sure if you tried to make a claim they'd try to worm their way out of it.

I'm never sure on this, i just always put 10k, how can they proove it anyway.

They will ask for MOT certificates to verify mileage and as they are computerised now they can verify it. It makes duck all difference to the premium anyway so better safe than sorry.

^Sometimes it does. Mine went once up £100 by changing it from 11k to 12k so i left it!

It does say 'estimated mileage' though. If that was your estimate, how can they penalise you for it if you go over, because you just don't know?

Hi Lauren,

The best thing to do is tell them. When I bought mine I said I would only do 8000 or less, when I was approaching 8000 I still had about 6 months to run on my insurance so called them and upped it to 16000. The main reason for doing this was because the car was new so they knew the previous milage (which was obviously 0). It did however put my insurance up by about £100 (was with Elephant).

shhhhhhhhhhhhhh dont tell em and theyll never know lol, only if u claim might they look into it but prob not anyway. i doubt they'd invalidate your insurance unless your insured with the SS more likely just take the extra milage cost from your claim
