does a car need to be taxed for the insurance to pay out after an accident?

no just have current mot mate.

I dont think the insurance companies have the ability to check tax ( plus you can have a car insured but sorn) fire and theft etc

Was it being driven? I know i wouldn't pay out if i was an insurance company.
