Insurance Question

Hey, my insurance is up on the 12th April and I'm hoping to get the 172, if however I don't find one by then, could I get another year with my current insurer and cancel it a month later and get 11 months refund?

I can't just transfer insurance from the cars because my current insurer wants far too much to insure the 172.

What would be the best way of doing this?
