Interesting iPhone development...

thats only sales in Germany and I'm sure apple will challenge it as they want to be able to have full control over the handset, which is why in America they are exclusive to AT&T and in the UK they are exclusive to O2.

Yes i know, but the fact official unlocked iphones exist bring a proper unlock closer.

Anyone hear jeremy clarkson on moyles yesterday?

He said hes got one and its unlocked pmsl on national radio as well haha

Apparently, if you lose or break your iphone and don't have insurance, you're looking at £700 to replace it. Guessing real figure is around £500-600.

oooh hurry up already i don't want to activaste mine and it's sitting at home!

If you would be stupid enough to pay that for an iPhone then fair play. You could get a 16GB Touch plus a years contract and get an N95, or any phone, and still have a couple hundred left to play with.

Think people are getting a bit carried away with the handset really, as a phone its not actually that great.

it's pish!!! nice interface, works great IF you have wifi (but so does my PC when I'm in the house....) hype hype hype.

omg, but thats the whole point...it's only 1 device...

Er...but most phones play music and have a camera and access the net...and for a lot cheaper and arguably better.

The iPhone is undoubtedly very nice, but objectively as a phone I don't think its all that - especially not for £600+

as a phone and i mean just a phone its the best i have ever had, for sending txts and making calls its great!

it works really well as an i pod, it allows me to send and receive emails easy and free, allows me to store images and video and lets me view it on a really nice screen!

camera isnt great but im a photographer i dont need a camera on my phone...

ok it doesnt have sat nav but my n95 does and its s**t lol, if i want sat nav i plug a tom tom in my car...

it has google maps and youtube which when in a pub or a club impresses LOADS of people...

im happy.

I've got to agree with MaLicE, the iPhone is excellent and far better for me than the N95 or other Nokia phones.

thats like saying, windows 3.1 does the job so why upgrade it to XP...(awaits the flames!)

the iphone is an awesome bit of kit and the touchscreen really is a cut above the rest.

I play with the iphone regularly (don't know about the calling tho) and its a doddle to use and its very good at what it does. The internet (not through wifi) is actually quite good as well. I personally wouldn't shell out the money for it but then I don't earn much as I'm a student and my money can be better spent. I think the awesome quality screen, touchscreen feature, and having the mass market favourite "ipod" built in make it a winner.

lol, how could you say the iphone is crap after playing with it in a store yet say the touch is ok, without being able to use the phone elements in a store they are pretty much exactly the same, same user interface etc.

As a textaholic I found the iPhone just takes too long to type messages.

Just been looking at it again though, and it is very lovely. Maybe I am just trying to look for faults - I guess the camera and text inputs are the only downers, apart from that it is lovely.

I feared that I would hate the text input but I'm every bit as quick using the iPhone as with any previous phone. You have to keep typing even if you have hit the wrong button, the auto correction is nearly always correct. I made the mistake on a friends iPhone of stopping and deleting incorrect letters which did make it seem like a pain to use.

Yeah I guess its like anything you get quicker with it over time, that was just what I found when I tried it. Other than that its nice, just not £600 nice!

Good call on the auto correction. Is that on by default? Just unlocked my old mans for a PAYG O2 sim for now until a full unlock is sorted to do an orange sim. He has massive fingers LOL will have to tell him this

Yeah the auto correction is standard.

Forget the £600 iPhone option, a simple unlock will be along soon for the £269 handset.
