Press Release;

RENAULT REVIVES GORDINI
The little blue bombshells with two white stripes are back!
The famous “Gorde” was a symbol of French success that thrilled several generations of
motorists who were thirsty for sporty sensations at the wheel of a fun car. The French blue, white
stripes and radiator grill with its four round headlights all contributed to an eternal identity that is
an important part of Renault's sporting heritage.

In a few months, new Gordini-labeled versions will supplement the Renault Sport range and
strengthen Renault’s offering in the compact sports segment.
The fashionable and sporty Gordini label still possesses its exclusive and sporting values. The
Gordini versions, derived from sports models that are already renowned for their outstanding
performance, will appeal to lovers of thrills at the wheel and a distinctive design.
Twingo Gordini RS will be unveiled on 25 November at L’Atelier Renault on the Champs Elysées in
Paris as part of the “Christmas in Blue” exhibition. It will be launched next spring. Clio Gordini RS
will be launched a few months later.

GORDINI: RENAULT’S SPORTING HERITAGE
Amédée Gordini, who developed almost 200,000 Renault vehicles over a 20-year period, achieved
some of the brand’s greatest sporting achievements.
Born in 1899, just about one year after the launch of the very first Renault vehicle, Amédée Gordini
demonstrated his mechanical skills from a very young age. After working as a mechanic on singleseaters,
his R8 Gordinis finished 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th in the 1964 Tour of Corsica rally. In 1966, the 1300
version heralded the birth of the Gordini Cup. The R8 Gordini delighted lovers of fun driving for a whole
decade.

It even featured in French films alongside famous stars, including Romy Schneider, Alain Delon and Lino
Ventura, and this small sports sedan was a big hit with the younger generation of drivers. The trend had
been set. Gordini became a symbol of success for a whole generation and came to embody a state of
mind. The spirit of a triumphant France that shared its successes with everyone.

GORDINI: THE FASHIONABLE AND SPORTY LABEL OF THE RENAULT SPORT RANGE
With its elegant finish and strong design codes, the Gordini label builds on the renowned
expertise of Renault Sport, and offers a fresh interpretation of its valuesRenault naturally opted to build on the reputation of Renault Sport Technologies (RST) in order to transform the Gordini legend into a reality. Renault’s sports branch has prolonged the Gordini heritage through its renowned expertise in motor sport and the development of its sports models.

RST is the world’s leading organizer of motor sport events. Since 2005, almost 3 million fans have
attended World Series by Renault meetings, the Megane Trophy and Clio Cup races and special events
for motor sport enthusiasts. RST is now a leading player in the motor sports sector.
Both in competition and series production, Renault’s sports models, such as the Megane RS, Clio RS and
Twingo RS, developed by RST, are acknowledged as figuring amongst the best-performing vehicles in
their category.

Re: Interesting news for Future RS Owners.

Mint!

Hopefully they'll offer more than a set of stripes

Re: Interesting news for Future RS Owners.

Does this potentially mean that the Renaultsport models will then no longer be top of the range? It'll be interesting to see what this means in reality. I read it as meaning the Gordini branded cars will be the 'Lux' versions?

Re: Interesting news for Future RS Owners.

Has the potential to be mint.

In reality it's prob going to be rebranding the Cups to Gordini's or something similar.

Thats how I understood it.

It'll just be an upgrade package on the stanard RenaultSports, meaning they'll still be top of the Renault range.
I really hope it'll be a proper tuning upgrade like the Cooper Works, Abarth etc...

Re: Interesting news for Future RS Owners.

gordini = lux it seems?

missed a biggy if it does go ahead by not opening and creating a back catalogue selling parts, upgrades for popular models such as the 182/R26

Re: Interesting news for Future RS Owners.

Could be good. Personally I'd rather see them investing this kind of money in a sepcialist RS centre programme. They can sell as many leather seats and stripes as they like but, when push comes to shove, the dealer still won't have a clue what your car is when you need it looking after.

Re: Interesting news for Future RS Owners.

I saw an article about this on the CAR website the other day too, who knows what will come of it but fingers crossed it's something a long the lines of what Fiat are doing with Abarth.

Indeed. Would be nice to have a network of RenaultSport specialist dealers. Abarth have.

Re: Interesting news for Future RS Owners.

Has potential but what will materialise is another thing.

Imo aftermarket tuners are always better than manufactorer approved ones.

Re: Interesting news for Future RS Owners.

I've read that they are looking at making the RS range the upmarket range and the Gordinis will be the cheaper range with more tailor made options and smaller but Turbo engines. The first one is to be the Twingo Gordini.

Saw the meggy on the cover of auto express last night. Looks good imo.

Re: Interesting news for Future RS Owners.

have you not seen the article on Car Magazine?

They say it will be above the RS model?

I don't believe them to be honest...

Re: Interesting news for Future RS Owners.

I always thought that Renault used the Gordini name as they didnt have the rights to Alpine in the UK - Now they have bought them from the Peugeot Group - Why bother with Gordini??? Trust me it'll be Alpine not Gordini.

Twingo on the 25th of november

That Megane RS in Gordini livery looks awful!

I think RS250 will be better off in subtle stealthy colours IMO

Hmm, sounds like it will be an RS 'lux' like has been said already.

RS will no longer be top of the range, although will be the more driver focused cars maybe?

And I can't see it being blue paint, stripes and leather, it would be a bit of a waste of marketing just to have some extras,

  Renault Clio S
I think in professional racing terms the Renault brand is now tainted and this exercise might be something to do with attracting new sponsors, particularly into F1, with the loss of ING.

Still a bit of a re-branding headache though, I mean if they renamed their sporty models ‘Gordini Clio’ for example, would they then have to rename their team ‘Gordini F1 Team’? Perhaps the way to go would be to name their sporty models ‘Renault Twingo Gordini’, adding Gordini to the Renault team name, e.g. ‘Renault Gordini F1 Team’.

Either way, RenaultSport still sounds better.

Renault Sport FTW! ! !

Gordini let's see how long this marketing trick goes...
(like Cooper Works for MINI, like Abarth for FIAT)

Not wanting any tarted up Renault Sports just for the Gordini moniker to be revived!

I'd seriously consider a Gordini 200, especially if they made the front end look less ugly lol!

sounds like its going to be an rs lux just cant see how they can offer much over rs the whole point should be to offer more power better handling which i dont see renault having in their parts bin tbh all i can see is branding an bit of styleing some alloys an maybe a bit of blue paint ;)

unlike john cooper an abarth which aad something to the cars its doomed to fail sadly if the clio an twingo had some form of turbo it would have made sense

Id like to see Gordini be completely stripped down versions of ReanultSports, so a bare bones RS could always be bought rather than it being an end of line thing.
Doubt it will happen though.
