Interesting throttle hunting problem

  172 Rally Car
I have a Clio 172 with a electronic throttle, when I start the car it hunts between 500 & 2000rpm and the throttle pedal is unresponsive

Any idea's?

It also seems to be intermittent as other times it starts and works fine- maybe an earth issue? Its also worth noting that the car is left for long periods between starts and is always cold

Cheers Sam

Ok slight update on this...

I seem to have a problem with either the thottle body or throttle pedal - let me explain..

Sometimes (very random as to if it will do it) i get i light on the dash like a ecg machine , when this happens i dont have any control of the throttle. i can switch the car off/on and it will still not work , then it will on another try or maybe 5?

Where do you recon the problem lies?

Cheers Sam

You are kind of answering your own question mate. To be sure though i'd get it plugged in to diagnostics. Otherwise you could be changing things with no results

Might be worth taking the throttle body off and give it a quick clean to see if it makes any difference, will only take 10-20mins

  Cup In bits
It's going into limp mode because either your pedal or throttle body are going out of range by the sounds of it.

Well yes i am, but then not at the same time - i have narrowed it down but they are quite expensive parts so i was after which is the most common failure really.

I did have it on the RS tuner but the discription wasnt really conclusive to which component was causing it...

Thanks Chaps!
