Interior boot light only works when door is open

On my mk1 172 I noticed tonight, in the dark and rain, that the light in the boot only comes on when a door is opened??

Shoudl it be like this, if not any idea what's up? Knackered switch?

you mean it doesn't operate when you open the boot?

Nope, only when a door is opened.

i.e. was getting the shopping out, boot open and light not on. Other half opens passenger door to get out, light in boot comes on (same as internal light), she shuts door, light in boot goes off

DIY electrician "fixed" it by the sound of it....

will have to have a proper look when the wether is better
