Intermittent Main Beam

This has happened ever since I've had the car (February) but I am always forgetting about it until I need it so always forgetting to ask for your guys help.

My main beam doesn't always switch on. You really have to pull it inwards quite hard and it's like it's not 'Clicking' in to place.

It's a pain in the arse because if I'm driving down a long dark road and stick them on and then an oncoming car comes, it takes ages to get them back off that I've resorted to turning my headlights off and back on again.

I'm gonna have to sort it now winter is coming etc.

What could be the cause of this? Broken stalk? How easy of a job are these to change?

Anybody know? Is it worth buying a new stalk or could it be something easier?

Sounds like the stalk's shagged. Cheap enough to replace.

I've looked at the guide for doing it and it appears to be very simple, just a case of taking the column top off and swapping them, but I haven't actually done it yet.
