Intermittent starting problem

2003 Clio 1.2 16v

Every now and then it has a starting problem. Turn the key and it sounds like the starter is turning without engaging. Get a highish pitched whining (bit like the start of the crazy frog !) but engine not turning over.

If this happens the car always starts on the 3rd or 4th attempt. After that, switch it off and it will start immediately.

Can be fine for a week, then sometimes does it every time you try start it in a day.

Anyone offer any help on this problem please.

Same symptoms as gsmgregg had. Get battery tested to see if its weak.

The same thing happened to my car! took it to the dealer and they fixed it! its a part above the gearbox that does it and it needs replaced
