I am on virgin.net - 17.99, 2 mb and 6gb limit, but i used 7.5 gb this month -lol, damn p**n.

Edit - Tiscali are claiming 2 mb for £14.99 with unlimited download.

Have you looked into the talk talk offer of free internet with their phone line and calls, seems to be a long delay in setting up internet though

If you swap make sure you phone up and get a Migration Authority Code so you can swap over pretty much instantly without having to cancel one provider then wait for another provider to start.

Good shout, i have been with nildram for 3 years now not had any problems with them, until ADSLMax came about, but thats probably down to BT.

With nildram its 25.99 a month (upto 8mb), with 50GB allowance peak time, and unlimited after midnight.

Zen are also good, but they charge 24.99 a month (upto 8mb), with 20gb allowance.

Also there is no truly unlimited providers out there, unless you get a leased line.

I am with bt, never had probs with. Currently pay £25.99 for 40gb limit and up to 8mb download. Also just got free upgraded to there total broadband which includes fancy router/hub thing and phone. Free evening and weekends call over the broadband.

I'm just switching to the Tiscali £14.99/month for 2Mb unlimited offer. (subject to fair usage policy!!)

My Dad already has it and it seems ok.

Yes 50gb is quite a fair bit, think I have only used 10gb maximum. All depends what you do, if you like downloading sh*t loads of movies then obviously you have to watch what your doing, you can always use there online usage stats though.

Your allowance always gets reset to 50gb at the end of the month, but whatever you dont use on the previous month gets added on, ie you use 10gb, the remaining 40gb's gets added to the 50gb you start with, so you got 90gb to play with for that month.

I mentioned Zen because there support is supposed to be top notch.

Also go to adslguide.org, you can compare isp's on there. :)

Fine as long as you don't use p2p as they throttle it.

Ntl for me for nearly 4 years , never had a problem with it ( touch wood ) 4mb , 30gb limit a month £24.99 , probably not the cheapest around i know but its a case of better the devil ya know .Plus they never seem to bother when i go over the limit so i'm happy as a pig in the old proverbial sh*t :)

Keep away from Bulldog and AOL . I know a few people who have used them and had problem after problem with connections dropping .

Their "fair usage crap" says something about only throttling it during peak times or something I think. I hope thats true as I do use p2p now and then.

I'm with bulldog, took 2 weeks of constant ringing to get connected after I should've been, but not had any problems since then and I love my 500-600k download (which I think should be doubling (max speed, not necessarily actual speed) soon). Although it's all academic now, as they're not allowing any more new customers anymore, they're offering reseller and provider capabilities.

I used to be on Plus.net and my dad currently uses them. I remember I had brief outages 3 times, my dad has never had any. On the downside, they do throttle P2P/newsgroups on bandwidth hoggers during peak times.

Nice one :)

I guess each isp is different in different areas , some are good in one area but not another . A guy at work had constant problems with Bulldog , always losing connection , couldn't receive incoming phone calls , when it was connected it was a max of 4mb on the " up to " 8mb connection .

I've never been above 5Mb, but to be honest I would have been happy with 3Mb. I'm about 1.5Km from the exchange (as the crow flies), and I have terrible attenuation 54Db, so wasn't expecting too much. But anybody expecting 8Mb will always be terribly disappointed. Even living opposite the exchange, it's debatable as to whether you'd get that.

But I know what you mean about getting disconnected... it's not happened to me yet (that I know of), but their forums are full of people complaining that they get cut off intermitently.

But I'm alright, Jack:D.

Gonna bump this for my own use rather than making a whole new topic for the same thing.

My needs are I need unlimited usage, 1 month contract as i dont know when im moving again preferrably 8mbit+ as i need the higher upload speeds. has to be able to use a bt line not be changed over and preferrably free installation.

dont need any equipment anyone know of any decent prviders willing to go to £30 a month for what I need.

22mb ADSL2+, 500 gig limit £29.99 a month with Ukonline.

That's LLU, their IPStream service is throttled though.

Just tried ukonline and i got the response that they cant find my phone line.

Seem to be having this problem with a few providers. Or they can only offer me 2mbit.

^Plus.Net went bad when Pipex took them over, before they had all that bad boy pipe and other throttling methods employed they were a good ISP. They went bad and I went to F2S, who also went bad.

Zen/Newnet/IDnet are about the only ISP's i'd recommend atm. Zen is and always has been a superb ISP.

Just checked those unfortunately the usage allowance is just not enough no where near infact the connection is going to be shared between 3 to 4 computers and well 30gb a month just isnt enough think in total we downloaded something like 100gb+ this week alone.

Looking at Eclipse at the moment think they might be the only one that is able to provide what im after apart from bulldog and my experiance with them is crap. never send me a bill just take money out at random times. Resulting in a couple embarrasing moments when i went to fill my car up put £60 worth of fuel in to find bulldog has taken 3 months rental all at once and i didnt have the cash left to cover it due to it being end of the month had to leave my phone at the petrol station and go borrow money rather embarrasing situation.

Think you're confused. Plusnet is a PLC and has never been taken over by pipex, nildram is owned by pipex.

You're not wrong about them going bad though, a year and a half ago they were a superb ISP, but eleventy billion product changes later, numerous porely worded announcements and retractions & spin they've been well and truly flushed down the toilet.

They throttle connections after 10GB of traffic (if you are on premier), their email service has been down more than a prosititutes knickers lately and they seem intent on introducing more and more new stuff before getting stuff working. Have a read over at adslguide.org.uk forums to see how poor their service is.

I was with plusnet for ages, and even after all the bad stuff that went on I stuck with them until speeds got so bad (I wasn't in the "throttle zone" either) that I changed ISP, low and behold by "broadband" connection became broadband again.

The words barge-pole, plusnet and wouldn't touch spring to mind.

I've not had any issues with nildram, 50GB (*download* limit peak) is good value for money. Zen were also excellent but that's 20GB upload/download anytime.

If you want unlimited ie over 100GB, then it will have to be on LLU, like Bulldog, Be unlimited or Ukonline. Any isp who use BT as there provider will not allow anyone to rape there lines, there capacity is charged per gb or mb, this is why caps are now very common with isp's. Zen used to allow unlimited, but after max was introduced they cap.

I believe alot of cities, town's have LLU in place, except for mine. :S

Ye sorry my bad sn00p, Plusnet took over Metronet, and Pipex took over F2S. Bit of confusion.

Eitherway I agree with your post, they've biten the hand that feeds them, numerous times.

If it was just me using it probably would not be so bad but with a few sharing bandwidth we use just seems to go up mentally. I went into my flatmates room the other day and he had downloaded 22gigs worth of stuff over night. And still had more stuff going when he went to work.

these guys look great, under 20 quid for static ip up to 8meg and 60 gig limit :) we like them,

so it's a BT line, Primus Saver Option 2 for free evening and weekend calls with no monthly charge and Newnet for my broadband
