Invisible mods

I was thinking more along the lines of on-track tuition, learning how to extract the most from the limited performance on offer...like learning throttle control out of corners (instead of mashing the pedal and letting the ECU control the wheelspin)...or understanding what the car's "saying" as you drive...learn this and you can use far more of the grip/traction available.

if you crash the insurance have been known to even check cams profiles if they are in ANY doubt!

its not worth the risk..

Think my insurance is up in a few weeks. May be I should just wait and see how good a quote I can get from Greenlight then. Personally don't think it will be good enough though.

If you've got a body kit, noticably lowered or a big back box, (not sure about alloys) then they will be more inclined to check, however, it would be very cost inefficient to do this on every accident, so stock looking/sounding cars will usually go without inspection. In the same way that the DVLA say they can request an inspection for a number plate change, it's just if they feel like it. If you crash and have the car towed to an out of the way location, they'll be more likely to just payout (very lazy!).

at the end of the day.. how would you possibly know if these undetectable mods were there or not when you bought it?

ignorance is not an excuse, if you are involved in a fatal accident the police WILL examine every detail on your car and you will be in deep s**t if you have undisclosed mods...

That's the bottom line. Accidents are accidents, it only takes one kid to run out into the road, it doesn't have to be your fault, but the insurers won't see it like that. And then custodial sentences are the only means of prosecution unless you have a spare £50k.

What is the deal with alloys and the like then ? I am buying the DCI 80 I mentioned in another thread, and the tyres on the front will need changing soon, and one of the rear wheels is missing a badge. No biggie, but I though instead of buying new tyres, might aswell buy new alloy wheels with tyres right away.

I am with Direct Line, do alloy wheels count for these "not allowed" mods. And if they do, is there anyway to get them allowed, such as "I need new wheels and have a set in the garage".

And as for these AWT inlets, are they available for diesels, I want to fix the intake and exhaust before doing a visit to my friends at superchips.co.uk... I'm not going for outragous loud stuff, just high flow with minimal noise (although wouldn't mind a little roar when booting it).:rasp:
Ben hasn't done any dci work as far as I know plus the cars a turbo just wack the boost up and get bigger injectors forget efficiency from little things like intake mods.
I wouldn't try the I've got sme wheels in the garage excuse just admit to then or don't do it.

Greenlight dont insure any 172 Cup drivers under the age of 25. So that's pointless.

I'll have to have a think about whether I should go ahead with the invisible mods or not. Seems to be a split decision with people on here. Which I can understand.

A reputable business encouraging engine modifications and not telling the insurance company.

Well I'd never

Us insurance investigators are not daft ;)

You put the ecu from a Standard 172 mk2 and the one out of my car( Ecu reFlash from BB Tuning) on a table and you tell me what the difference is!?
I personally dont think declaring that ur ecu has been played around with is worth it because at the end of the day, like mine it may have only given you a couple of brake more maximum!
EVERY mod i have is declared but the ecu i think does,nt matter.
Also Bezza- dont know what the difference is but im only 23 and have been insured with Greenlight for the past 2years and with the mods ive got found them to be the cheapest by far even with FIVE years no claims

Do Tesco insure modified cars for under 21s ???

It didn't give me an option in the quote but gave me the best one out of the selection I chose.

If you're changing cars, look around for more insurance, different companies will charge different prices for the same car (be it higher or lower)
