IP ADDRESS

Who can help me locate an address from an IP address? I have found that my laptop had software on it to track it and have now found information e.g. ip address, mac address, internet provider etc of where/when it is being used.........can anybody help me out? Police are doing my fooking nut in and are not being very helpful even though I have basically given them the address of where these people are but nope I have to wait to speak to the officer that's dealing with it...and that was from yesterday afternoon and again this morning!!!!!!

Not open to the public but i know a select few plus the police obviously that can get the actual address.

Do you know who on here that can do it (pm me if you want) and i will pm them and ask?

Don't think they would do that for you tbh as it must violate a number of rules, and if you went over there the question of how you knew would be raised, hence putting said person's job at risk.

Wouldn't go over there as I wouldn't know who I was dealing with but I could give the address over to the police and keep the person who told me annonymous and then at least they have an address to check against the IP address and other info I have.......then maybe they will get off their fooking ar5es and do something

Really confused now: Police have just called and said the company who is supplying the thiefs with their IP Address can not track a house address with a ip address and have asked me to call the internet provider, which have said the same to me!!??

If anybody has that ability to get an address from an IP Address your help will be much appreciated as the police was fine with me getting the information from the internet provider so if I get it from some where else they are not going to know.....so please some one let me see the light at the end of this fooking long tunnel?

You can trace the IP address back to the service provider, but then it's up to the service provide to trace it back through their network to the subscribing client. They can do it, but it takes a little effort - plus, they are probably under no obligation to do it.
If the service provider uses BT's backbone service then they would then have to go to BT. No single person can do the trace, and no single person has the authority/ability to make the service-provider to provide the information.

Personally - I think service providers are lazy when it comes to tracing users unless there is money in it or the threat of legal action (they can do it.. see what happens when you share music P2P..)

I reckon they must be. Don't you have to provide a username/password on most ADSL connections? Surely they just tie that in with the IP and check the persons account?

Of course they can track it, like above said, how else can people come knocking on your door about piracy...
