iPad - black screen

So my Mum's iPad has just developed a black screen. It still works, you can unlock it if you swipe in the right area, but the screen is constantly black.

She says she has no idea how it happened, which I'm a little suspect of.

I bought it from Currys December 2010, so if they have a years warranty, that's up now.

If I take it into Apple, what can they do?

If I'm really pushing my luck they might replace it as it's JUST out of warranty, but that's long shot. Anyone heard of this happening before?

Well they replaced my iPhone after a few weeks of getting it as the screen on that messed up too, through no fault of mine btw.

So I hope they don't take that into consideration.

Does it matter that I bought it from Currys and I'm taking it back to Apple?

I'd rather do that as Currys won't give a monkeys tbh!
