Iphone 3G vs 3GS

  Mustang, S13, AX GT
I'm due for an upgrade on my contract and figured I might aswell be one of the cool kids with an iphone.. Now as I am actually really cheap I had a look at recon handsets and I am pretty much dead set on gettin a reconditioned Iphone 3G, as the handset is free. The 3GS however is still £180 recon so I just want to know what is the difference between the 2 handsets? Is it really worth paying an extra £180 for the S? Cheers guys :)

PS, if this has been asked a million times please feel free to just post a link, I looked but couldn't see the same question.

Not worth £180.

The 3GS is definitely quicker.

I have one, but broke it last week and have used my dads 3G (Old one) this week before i sorted the insurance out. Only noticeable differences are the fact it doesn't show the % next to the battery and its a bit slower (Not that much) when going to open something such as 'Messages'

Hope that helps mate. :)

Cheers Dave, if its just a bit slower thats no problem I'm upgrading from an XDA lol. Chris, I'm far too cheap for an iPhone 4 haha. free vs £2-300+, free phone wins :)

The battery percentage thing is annoying, but if you haven't had it, you won't miss it.

Although im guessing with an XDA you did lol! Still a massive upgrade from one of those!

as long as it beeps at me with some prior warning its not a big problem haha. I have an XDA which in all honesty wasn't a bad phone its just the internet at times was a bit slow and if you had a few programs running the phone was a bit slow. Its annoying at times, but its not the end of the world.

Get the new one! You won't regret it!

But if you're set on not, I'd get the "S" over the standard after seeing how much slower my friends is, I'd never used a non "S" and it was horrible after using mine for so long.

The 3GS is FAR quicker than the 3G and will also be able to run alot more of the features in iOS4 than the 3G. I would definitely get the 3GS in your position.

The 3GS will fall in price as soon as the networks announce the iPhone 4 costs. The 3GS will more than likely adopt the 3G pricing.

Well I got the 3G through today and I'm quite happy with it tbh. Its plenty quick enough for how I'm using it. I have only had it on wifi today but it all loaded nice and quick so we'll see how well it does when connecting to internets...

If you're happy with the 3g then it's all good, but in my opinion it's a bit of a mistake to get one now. It's effectively a dead platform now, it doesn't support the most important parts of ios4 and more crucially, there will be no more major firmware updates for it.

I had a look at the updates and it doesn't seem like I'll be too upset about missing out on them. This is my 1st go at iphone so its perfect for me for now as Im not too addicted to all the crap that iphone users love just yet ;)

I bet you end up buying a better one fairly quickly! Lol

it's not until you use a 3gs that you realise just how much quicker it is than the 3g, even the lock screen is smoother!

Welcome to the fold though.

Huge fear haha! Everyone I know with an iphone is well and truly addicted to it. I'm still of the opinion its just a phone, but I've not been in the app store yet :)

The 3G is fine tbh. Not worth that much extra for the 3GS anyway, IMO of course.
