iPhone 3gs not ringing

As title really but I still get a message tone. Anybody else had this?

My friends used to not ring but go straight to voicemail when she had full signal etc, the text to say she'd got voicemail messages would come through fine, then other times the message tone would sound but no message!

She reset it/wiped it/upgraded software etc but no luck, in the end Apple gave her a new one.

it still comes up someones phoning and I can answer just like it's on silent. very annoying!
