iPhone help needed, water damage.

Morning

My mum (no, no pics, I know what you're like) dropped her phone down the loo yesterday. Now obviously the phones is playing up, I put it in a bag of rice in the airing cupboard overnight, and managed to get it to turn on this morning, but it turns straight off again. I think the battery's the problem, and it won't charge properly, just keeps turning on, then low battery warning, then it shuts itself of.

Now, here's the main bit, the phone is full of all her photos of her horse, which had to be put down a month ago, so she's a but upset that she can't get any of her photos off it. She hasn't backed the phone up, hasn't got iCloud so there is no way of getting them that way. Now, can apple put a new battery in to it, or is there another way of getting the images off, when the phone won't currently stay on long enough, or can it not be done at all?

Help would be larverly.

Mine did this - left it in rice for 72 hours and works totally perfect

Sorry to be the bearer of a bit of bad news but Apple now don't repair any of their products, they only offer replacements and then due to an EU recycling law they test and re-use all the working parts in brand-new products. So for example a 'brand-new' iPhone 5 may have the battery and speaker from a previously returned 5 that a customer returned because of a broken screen.​

With regards getting the photos off the phone, have you tried syncing it with a PC/Mac because if the battery is fcuked may be it would turn on using the power from the PC/Mac?​

They replace batteries, which is what I'm after.

Replacing the battery consists of 3 screws. 2 of those are toi remove the back cover.

Your also be able to give the insided a dry too.

Suggest fitting another battery temporarily to see if it will power on. Take along your laptop and book 2 consecutive appointments, this will allow the Genius or Family Room Specialist enough time to try and help you.

Apple stated to me that they don't repair their products anymore, obviously good for the OP if they do but just relaying what Apple customer service told me. I benefitted financially from them telling me that so no reason for them to have lied to me.

My friends girlfriend dropped her phone down the loo, she took it to Apple and she walked out with a brand new one no problem... the water hadn't got into the water marks or whatever it is they can tell if its been wet.

Deep pyrex bowl of rice. Sit in airing cupboard for 3 days. If it doesn't cut it, Oven, lowest heat, bowl at the bottom for 15 mins to 1 hour.

Mate did it with a HTC and that was 3 years ago - STILL working ace.

24 hours is not long enough for it to dry out before trying to run the electric current through it again.

I dropped my old 3G down the bog (luckily it was piss free water) and mine was fine after a week on the radiator (wrapped in a towel).

Lasted a good 12+ months after the incident.

Just dropped mine down the shitter - not happy at all!

Straight into a bowl of rice for a few days in a warm room, hopefully it'll work again!!

(it was also a brand new replacement that I got last week ...!)
